Valheim final boss: how to summon and beat Kall Fimbulbringer

Valheim’s final boss is Kall Fimbulbringer, and you can’t just stumble into him. Before the fight you need three Intricate Keys, three runs through Mörkhalla, three Jotun invasions and the Malicious Blood they leave behind. This guide walks through the whole chain, explains the three phases of the fight and lists the rewards. No ending spoilers.

Who is Kall Fimbulbringer?

Kall Fimbulbringer is the boss of the Deep North, the biome that arrived with Valheim 1.0 on 9 September 2026. The name comes straight from the official 1.0 patch notes. He is a giant of the Jotun race, the same people who launched an invasion of Valheim in 1.0 and who you will be fighting throughout the north.

He is the last boss of the main progression. If you haven’t explored the north yet, start with our Deep North guide. You can’t reach Kall without the materials and crafting stations found there.

What you need before summoning him

Everything hinges on one item: the Intricate Key. It unlocks the gate of a Mörkhalla and is consumed when you use it. You need three keys in total, because you will clear three Mörkhallas.

The key is crafted like the rest of the Deep North gear, through a mould and a cast:

  1. Mould. Moulds for weapons, armour and the Intricate Key are found in the Winding Tunnels, often under rubble piles you have to smash. The entrance is in an abandoned village: look for the biggest multi-storey house, there is a hole in the ground inside.
  2. Bloodgold. The Deep North’s key metal. A defeated Gammeltroll turns to stone; break the body with an Ember Charge bomb to get Petrified Tissue, then smelt it into Bloodgold in the Blast Furnace.
  3. Cast at the Black Forge. Combine the mould and Bloodgold at the Black Forge to make a cast.
  4. Finish in the Frost Foundry. The Frost Foundry runs on Liquid Frost, which you make from Ice in the Frigid Kiln.

The Frost Foundry and the Frigid Kiln each need 10 Frostcore, which also comes from the Winding Tunnels. Clear them thoroughly the first time. For a full walkthrough of both dungeons, see our Deep North dungeons guide.

Mörkhalla and the three Jotun invasions

A Mörkhalla is a tall, dark structure in the Deep North. The entrance is usually out of reach from the ground, so bring the Grappling Hook; in practice you won’t get to the gate without it. Use an Intricate Key on the gate and the key is gone.

Inside you fight Jotuns. Your goal sits at the very bottom: Malice Ice. Destroy it and you trigger a Jotun invasion. The invasion site shows up on your map. Fight off the invasion and you get Malicious Blood.

One full loop looks like this:

  1. Craft an Intricate Key.
  2. Unlock a Mörkhalla with it.
  3. Reach the bottom and destroy the Malice Ice.
  4. Find the invasion site on the map and beat the Jotuns.
  5. Collect the Malicious Blood.

Repeat it three times: three keys, three Mörkhallas, three invasions, three Malicious Blood. The invasions are a real fight, so bring friends if you can. Valheim supports 1 to 10 players, and a group on different platforms can team up thanks to full crossplay.

Finding the Aesir Passage and summoning the boss

A Vegvisir rune in the Deep North reveals the location of the Aesir Passage, the way to Kall.

The summoning itself is an offering: place three Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl. That opens the Aesir Passage and the road to the fight. Until you have all three, the way stays shut, so there is no point showing up early.

Check your gear before the offering. It is a long fight against more than fifty thousand hit points, and fire comes in handy in the final phase.

The fight: three phases

Kall Fimbulbringer has 52,800 health in total, split across three phases:

PhaseWhat happensHealth
Phase 1The boss attacks with chains.10,000
Phase 2The boss is invulnerable; you fight the Aspects, spectres of earlier Forsaken bosses.12,800 combined
Phase 3Final phase with Spike Rain and Tendrils added.30,000

Phase 1: chains

The opening phase is the warm-up. Kall attacks with chains, which gives you time to learn how he moves. At 10,000 health it is the shortest part of the fight.

Phase 2: the Aspects

In phase two you can’t damage Kall at all. Instead, the Aspects appear: spectres of the Forsaken bosses you beat in earlier biomes, with 12,800 health between them. Focus on them rather than the boss.

Phase 3: Spike Rain and Tendrils

The last phase is the longest, with 30,000 health. On top of his earlier attacks, Kall adds Spike Rain and Tendrils. The Tendrils are weak to fire, so save your fire weapons or ammo for this stage.

If monsters spawned outside the arena during your attempt, that was a bug. Patch 1.0.16 from 25 September 2026 fixed it, so update before you go in.

Rewards and what comes next

Beating Kall gives you Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel. The Crown Jewel is one of the new 1.0 materials, and the patch notes also list the Crown of Valheim among the new armour.

Defeating Kall completes the main progression. Valheim 1.0 has a real ending, but your world carries on and you can keep playing in it. What happens after you hand over your reward is something we’ll leave for you to find out.

Two things worth knowing in advance:

  • Achievements. 1.0 added achievements, but they only count from the moment you download 1.0. Boss kills from Early Access don’t count.
  • Cinematics. 1.0 added new animated sequences, including ones after defeating key bosses.
