Square Enix has officially unveiled a new collectible for fans of one of its most beloved RPGs. The Final Fantasy 9 music box named A Place to Call Home is now up for pre-order, and according to the store listing it is expected to arrive in October 2026.
What you actually get
It is a small, shelf-friendly piece rather than a display centerpiece. The box carries the game’s logo on the front and measures 5.99 x 5.3 x 3.98 cm, so it will fit next to figures and art books without taking over the whole shelf. When you wind it up, it plays the A Place to Call Home track from the original Final Fantasy 9 soundtrack – one of the main themes that recurs throughout the game.
The price is the friendly part: £24.99 ($28.99) to pre-order, which is cheap by the standards of most gaming collectibles these days. You can find the listing on the Square Enix store.
Part of a bigger music box line
This is not a one-off. Music has always been a huge part of the franchise’s identity, and the merch lineup reflects that. Alongside the music boxes, Square Enix has also put out several Final Fantasy vinyl sets dedicated to the original soundtracks from across the series.
Why Final Fantasy 9 still gets this treatment
Even inside a franchise stacked with classics, FF9 stands out. More than two decades after its original release it is still widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever made, and it holds up well enough that newcomers can jump in today. A 2016 remaster added some minor modern conveniences to the classic experience, and the game remains available across current platforms.
What’s next for the series
On the games side, the big one on the calendar is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which launches in April 2027 and wraps up the remake trilogy that started back in 2020. Whether Final Fantasy 9 ever gets a full remake in that same style is still an open question – Square Enix has announced nothing of the sort.
