The latest Counter-Strike 2 patch notes run to seven lines. That does not sound like much, but it is still more than the last two updates combined – and the real takeaway is the signal itself: Valve is in a phase where it is actively touching the game again.
The headline change concerns the AUG. The scoped CT rifle has been out of the meta for years and realistically almost nobody buys it. Now its reload has been shortened from 3.766667 seconds to 3.2 seconds.
What the AUG change actually does
The value Valve tweaked is m_flDisallowAttackAfterReloadStartDuration, the window during which you cannot shoot after starting a reload:
- Before: 3.766667 seconds
- Now: 3.2 seconds
- The weapon is ready to fire 0.566667 seconds earlier after the reload starts
In other words, you get back into the fight roughly half a second sooner. A side-by-side comparison of the new timing is below:
Nobody was really calling for this buff, and the community is mostly puzzled about why the AUG of all guns got attention. Half a second off a reload is not going to drag it back into the pool of preferred rifles the way it once was, but the people who love the gun are certainly not complaining.
The rest of the patch
The remaining lines are smaller quality-of-life work:
- fixed reload audio on the Desert Eagle
- a demo player fix
- fixed clipping on the Rush map
- general game stability improvements
- a dedicated ping icon for the defuse kit
That last one is the fan favorite. Players have been asking for a proper defuse kit ping ever since the ping system was added, and it is finally in the game.
The full patch notes are posted on the Steam news page for the game.

FAQ
The blocked-fire window after starting a reload dropped from 3.766667 seconds to 3.2 seconds, so the rifle is ready to shoot 0.566667 seconds earlier.
Unlikely. The gun has been out of the meta for years and a roughly half-second quicker reload is not expected to return it to its former status, even if AUG fans will enjoy it.
It is a dedicated ping icon for the defuse kit, so pinging a kit is now clearly recognizable. Players had been suggesting it ever since pinging was added.
Desert Eagle reload audio, a demo player issue, clipping on the Rush map, and general game stability.
Seven lines of patch notes – small, but still more content than the previous two updates.
