Here’s the key point: these are two separate things with their own rewards. A pass from one unlocks nothing in the other, and progress doesn’t carry over between them. Cosmetics you earn are tied to your account, though, so you can use them everywhere.
Override: what’s running in the main game
Chapter 7 Season 4 brought its own Battle Pass with new skins, including Mali, Wrixel and Geno. You unlock the pass by playing, not with money; you only buy access to it and then collect rewards by completing quests.
You have until 31 October 2026 to finish it. Whatever you don’t manage to unlock by then is gone once the season ends, and that’s the main pressure Fortnite puts on players.
Fortnite OG: Season X and the return of the old map
Fortnite OG is a separate mode that runs on the original map from the game’s first years and targets nostalgia. Season X, under the tagline “Out of Time”, started on 3 September 2026 and will last 92 days, until 4 December.
The map was transformed by the so-called Reality Wave: Dusty Depot is whole again, and Rift Zones are back, including a zone inspired by Pandora from Borderlands. For players who played Fortnite in 2018, it’s the closest the game has come to how it looked back then.
How to tell what you’re playing
In the mode selection, you choose between the main Battle Royale and Fortnite OG. If you’re not sure where you are, look at the map: the original map with Dusty Depot means OG, anything else is the main game. The pass the game offers you will match as well.
When the next season arrives
The main season ends on 31 October 2026, so the new one follows right after. For Fortnite OG, it won’t be until after 4 December. The switch between seasons usually comes with a big update and a map change, and it’s also the moment when it pays to finish whatever you have left in your pass.
