Treyarch is wrapping up two straight years of Black Ops, and the studio has made it clear it’s already looking past them. In a new dev talk video, the team said goodbye to the current era and said it’s ready to build something players haven’t experienced before.
The context is simple: Treyarch led development on two Call of Duty games back-to-back, 2024’s Black Ops 6 and 2025’s Black Ops 7. With Season 6 landing in Black Ops 7 on September 17, the studio signalled it is moving on to its next Call of Duty project.
What Treyarch actually said
“This is a bittersweet goodbye, but I think over the last two years, we’ve learned a lot,” said design director Kevin Drew. “We’ve tried a lot of things in our current era. But we’re ready to make something new and something that nobody’s ever experienced before.” He added that he’ll see players in Season 6 on September 17.
Co-studio head Yale Miller looked back on the run as a whole. He pointed to Black Ops 6 setting new benchmarks, Black Ops 7 being the biggest Black Ops game ever, and to the studio taking “huge swings” with features like Omnimovement and Endgame. He also thanked partner studio Raven and the other teams that helped Treyarch deliver maps, content and Zombies experiences, plus the players grinding camos, unlocks and progression systems and sending feedback.
Miller also gave a nod to Infinity Ward, saying the team is “clearly setting new bars” with its upcoming game, that there’s much more of it left to see, and that Treyarch took part in a ton of playtests. He signed off with a promise to see players online in Season 6 and in MW4.

Longer term, the comments confirm Treyarch’s attention has shifted to its next Call of Duty, though the studio hasn’t said what form that game will take or when it will be announced.
