Recruiting in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave runs on three conditions at once: a support level with your chosen lord, a set renown level, and usually a small extra task on top. The catch is that those requirements shift from route to route – the same character can join you early on one storyline and show up much later on another.
The short version:
- Support level between the character and your lord is the base condition. You raise it with gifts, by inviting them to meals, and by taking them to stage shows at the theatre.
- Renown is a global value you build through main missions, subquests, paralogues and audiences with the Gods.
- Extra tasks vary a lot – sometimes money, sometimes a question, sometimes a few items or a subquest.
- Some recruits hang off specific paralogues, and not every route can reach all of them.
- Requirements change with the lord you’re playing. The same character can demand noticeably more renown on one route than another.
- Support levels never drop and carry across playthroughs.
The three conditions in detail
Most characters join during part 1, and the game almost always checks the same three things.
| Condition | How you meet it |
|---|---|
| Support level | Give gifts, invite the character to meals, bring them to stage shows at the theatre once it’s unlocked. |
| Renown level | Complete main missions and subquests, play paralogues, hold audiences with the Gods. |
| Extra task | Varies per character: a sum of money, a question, specific items, or a subquest. |
The second row is the one worth sitting with: renown counts paralogues. Skip them and your renown climbs slower, which pushes new units further out – so the paralogue time windows end up costing you twice.
Why your route decides the timing
Recruitment conditions aren’t fixed. They depend on which of the four lords you’re currently playing. In practice that means a character who joins you at a low renown level on one route can ask for considerably more on another, and only become available late.
There’s a usable rule in that: if you specifically want someone early, check which storyline gets them cheaper before you commit to a route. And if you’re sitting on a route where the requirement is steep, waiting is rarely worth it when the same character would already be playable elsewhere.
Two exceptions run on story progress rather than stats. Fabio and Gaitz have a recruitment window tied to how far the tournament has advanced. Play past it and they’re out for that run.
Support levels are long-term credit
Support level is a global value. It doesn’t decrease, and it stays with you across playthroughs. That’s why gifts and shared meals are worth the time even for characters you have no intention of recruiting right now: you’re banking credit that counts immediately on a later route.
So if you plan to play more than one route – and that’s the general advice, so you end up with enough units for part 3 – don’t limit support building to the characters you need in the current run.
Who only turns up later
Not everyone is available in part 1. Part of the roster joins in later sections of the story, including Anatolia, Talimun, Bertrand, Orchel, Centurio, Creek and Aswan. If someone you’ve seen mentioned is missing from your roster, the reason may simply be that their moment hasn’t arrived yet.

No. The same character can join at a much lower renown level on one storyline than another, so it’s worth checking before you pick a route.
No. Support levels never decrease and carry over between playthroughs.
Yes, Fabio and Gaitz. Their window depends on how far the tournament has progressed in the story.
