Yes, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando has full crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You bring in a friend from another platform with an invite code, and since patch 2.0 on 18 June 2026 you can also take your progress with you to a different platform. Does Toxic Commando have crossplay?
It does, and it has since launch on 12 March 2026. Focus Entertainment’s launch announcement promised full crossplay support across PC and consoles, and the game was developed by Saber Interactive. One squad can mix players from:
- PC: both the Steam and the Epic Games Store versions,
- PlayStation 5,
- Xbox Series X|S, where the Microsoft Store lists the game as Xbox cross-platform co-op.
A squad holds four players at most: you plus three others. It doesn’t matter who plays on what. One friend can be on a Steam PC, another on PS5 and a third on Xbox. On Steam the game runs on Windows only, with no official Mac or Linux version.
How to invite a friend from another platform
Steam friends can be invited straight from your friends list. For everyone else, meaning Epic players and console players, you use an invite code. Here’s the process from the developers’ official guide:
- Open the Social menu (V on PC) and switch to the Friends tab.
- Show your invite code and send it to your friend, over Discord or wherever you chat.
- Your friend picks Join by code in the same menu (J on PC) and enters it.
- Once they connect, they show up in your squad and you can head into a mission.
Players can also join a game that’s already in progress. If a friend is running late, there’s no need to restart the mission. They can drop in mid-run.
How to turn crossplay off
If you only want to play with people on your own platform, you can switch crossplay off in the game’s settings under the Gameplay tab. Both TheGamer and FandomWire point to the same spot. The game will then only match you with players on your platform.
Cross-progression: moving your save between platforms
This is where plenty of guides online get it wrong. Articles from March 2026 say Toxic Commando doesn’t support cross-progression. That was only true until the summer. Patch 2.0 (Urban Blight) on 18 June 2026 added PROS Save Transfer, and cross-progression has officially worked ever since.

- unlocked cosmetics,
- achievements.
Your progress is saved to the cloud and you pick it up on the other platform. Every platform the game launched on is supported.
What you need
You need a PROS account linked to your platform. Linking is quick: scan the QR code in the game’s main menu with your phone. Link the same account on your second platform and the save comes across. If you started on PS5 and moved to PC, you don’t have to start from scratch.
When you don’t have a full squad
You don’t need four people for a mission. AI bots take any empty slots, and if you pick Private Game, no strangers can join. So two or three friends can play together while bots fill out the rest of the team. Local servers on PC
The Retrieval Update (3.0) on 2 September 2026 added local servers on PC. You can host a private game with friends right on your own machine. The feature is still experimental, and the developers note that the host needs a stronger CPU, more RAM and a better connection. Where to buy if you want to play with friends
With crossplay in place, the choice really comes down to where you prefer to play. On PC you can pick between Steam and the Epic Games Store, on console it’s PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. All missions, weapons and vehicles from updates are free for everyone, so nobody in the squad has to buy extra content to keep up.
