The MongolZ Rebuild Again: cobrazera Returns and nin9 Comes Back After Eight Years

Last year’s Major finalists still haven’t found a way back to their peak. After Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold and Ayush “mzinho” Batbold left for BC.Game, the once rock-solid lineup has spent the whole year searching for itself, cycling through several players along the way. Now The MongolZ are going back to a name that already spent the first half of the season with them: Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar is off the bench after three months.

Two youngsters out, one veteran in

Neither Dugarsuren “DarkMeister” Ireedui nor Zolbayar “tikuak” Chimedtseren managed to settle into the team, so one more signing was needed on top of cobrazera’s return. This time the organization went the opposite direction and bet on experience. Yesuntumur “nin9” Gantulga is back with The MongolZ after eight years.

For most of his career nin9 has handled a double role as in-game leader and sniper, but both of those jobs are already taken in this roster.

The current CS2 lineup looks like this:

  • Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren
  • Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold
  • Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch
  • Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar
  • Yesuntumur “nin9” Gantulga
  • Coach: Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat

What nin9 is supposed to bring

The 28-year-old brings experience from the Mongolian scene and beyond, and he should slot in as the glue guy and secondary caller next to bLitz. Over the last three years he represented The Huns, where he put the AWP down a few months ago – so the only thing he’ll share with 910 is a numeric nickname, not a weapon preference. That versatility is exactly what The MongolZ have been missing all year.

Two tournaments decide the Major

The reshuffled roster debuts in two weeks at 1win Private Club, an event we also covered from the SINNERS perspective. At the end of October they head to the Tier 1 stage at PGL Masters Bucharest. Those two events will decide whether The MongolZ show up at their sixth Major in a row – data analyst Mischief currently puts their chances at 73.8 %.

After a rapid slide from the TOP 15 down to 50th in the world ranking, there isn’t much margin left. Another weak stretch and the team drops out of elite company entirely.

Where to next

The Asian Major race has more moving parts than just The MongolZ – we also wrote about a team of streamers that switched regions. For everything else around the scene, keep an eye on our Counter-Strike 2 news.
