Pokemon Home Now Supports FireRed and LeafGreen – Plus 9,000 Storage Slots and a Free Celebi

Pokemon Home has officially rolled out the update that Kanto fans were waiting for. With version 4.1.0, the storage service now supports Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch, so you can finally move your critters out of the classic GBA titles and into your Home boxes. The update is live on Switch as well as on mobile, both on iOS and Android.

The Pokemon Company announced the compatibility back in August, several months after the Kanto remakes surprise-launched on Switch in February. That makes this the final piece of the puzzle for anyone who has been grinding a Pokedex in FireRed or LeafGreen since Pokemon Day.

What’s in Pokemon Home 4.1.0

  • Compatibility with Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen for Nintendo Switch.
  • Premium Plan (paid) subscribers can now deposit 9,000 Pokemon, up from 6,000. The price of the Premium Plan is not changing.
  • Support for 32-bit Android devices is ending.
  • Celebi can be unlocked in Home by completing the Pokedex.

Transfers only go one way

This is the part you want to read twice before you start shuffling boxes. Once a Pokemon from FireRed or LeafGreen lands in Home, it cannot go back to those games. Pokemon from other entries in the series can’t be sent into FireRed or LeafGreen either, so the whole pipeline is strictly one-directional. If a mon is still useful to you in Kanto, leave it there for now.

The storage bump helps a lot here. The jump from 6,000 to 9,000 slots gives you 3,000 extra spaces, which is more than enough room to park a completed FireRed and LeafGreen Pokedex without clearing out older collections. The flip side of the patch notes is less pleasant: Pokemon Home is ending support for 32-bit Android devices, so if you’re on older hardware, check your phone before you rely on the app.

How to get the free Celebi

Home is also handing out a Gen 2 Mythical as a reward for completionists. To claim Celebi, you need to transfer a complete Kanto Pokedex from FireRed or LeafGreen, and progress across both versions counts toward the total. Once that’s done, a level 50 Celebi becomes available inside Pokemon Home. Two caveats: Mew does not count toward the complete Kanto Pokedex, and the Celebi you receive can’t be sent back to FireRed or LeafGreen.

What about Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald?

The obvious question now is whether the rest of Gen 3 follows. Many fans expected Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald to arrive on Switch after the Kanto remakes, and rumors have pointed that way, but neither Nintendo nor The Pokemon Company has said anything official. For now, there’s no confirmed window for those ports.

With the 30th anniversary running throughout 2026, The Pokemon Company keeps adding to the celebration – the 30th Celebration TCG set and a string of collabs have already landed, and Home supporting GBA transfers leaves the door open for more surprise releases.

FAQ

Is the Pokemon Home update available right now?

Yes. Version 4.1.0 is live for Nintendo Switch as well as for mobile users on iOS and Android.

Can I move Pokemon back into FireRed and LeafGreen?

No. Transfers are one-way. Once a Pokemon leaves FireRed or LeafGreen for Home, it can’t return, and Pokemon from other games can’t be sent into the Kanto remakes at all.

How many Pokemon can I store now?

Premium Plan subscribers can deposit up to 9,000 Pokemon, which is 3,000 more than before. The Premium Plan price stays the same.

What do I need to do to get Celebi?

Transfer a complete Kanto Pokedex from FireRed or LeafGreen – progress across both versions counts. You then receive a level 50 Celebi in Pokemon Home, and Mew is not required for the completion check.

Are Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald coming to Switch?

There has been no official announcement from Nintendo or The Pokemon Company, so it’s unclear if or when those ports might arrive.
