Black Ops 7 not working: errors, crashes and connection fixes

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t launch, keeps crashing, can’t reach the servers or tells you to buy a game you already have? This guide sticks to the fixes Activision Support officially documents: “0x” errors on Xbox on PC, the NOT AVAILABLE message in PC Game Pass, the CE-34878-0 crash on PlayStation, crashes on Xbox and PC, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot warnings, and connection troubleshooting. It covers PC (Steam, Battle.net, Xbox on PC), PlayStation and Xbox, verified on 19 October 2026.

Check the servers first

Before you reinstall anything, open the Black Ops 7 Server Status page on Activision Support. If an alert or maintenance is posted there, the servers aren’t fully operational and the problem isn’t on your end. On console, also check your platform’s network status on Xbox Status or PlayStation Network Status.

Black Ops 7 needs a constant internet connection in every mode, including the campaign, because the game streams textures while you play. There is no way to start it offline. You also need an Activision account, and you may be asked to add a mobile phone number to it.

Known errors and what to do

The table covers the problems Activision lists in its Known Issues and Crashes or Game Freezes articles. Other error codes that circulate on forums are left out because there is no official fix for them.

0x errors on Xbox on PC

If you play through PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store version and get an error starting with “0x”, go to Start › Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Call of Duty, click the three dots and choose Advanced options. Hit Terminate first, then Repair. If the repair doesn’t help, uninstall and reinstall the game.

NOT AVAILABLE in PC Game Pass

The message “NOT AVAILABLE. Purchase Black Ops 7 to have access to everything.” can show up even with an active subscription. Activision suggests checking whether you have hit the device limit in the Microsoft Store. If not, contact support. What Game Pass includes is covered in our guide to editions and prices.

Zero COD Points after an update

Seeing 0 COD Points after a patch is, according to Activision, only a visual bug. Close the game and launch it again, repeating the restart if needed.

Crashes on PlayStation

Error CE-34878-0 or the generic “An error has occurred with an application or system software” means the application crashed. Restart the game. If it keeps happening, update the console’s system software, make sure the console has enough airflow and delete old data you no longer need.

Crashes on Xbox

On Xbox, Activision recommends updating the system, clearing the cache and resetting the alternate MAC address: Settings › Network › Network settings › Advanced settings › Alternate MAC Address › Clear, then Restart.

Crashes on PC

First make sure your PC meets at least the minimum system requirements. The game only supports Intel and AMD processors with the AVX instruction set, and Intel Arc cards need Resizable BAR enabled. Close apps running in the background and update your graphics driver to the versions Activision recommends (as of 19 October 2026):

  • AMD: 25.12.1
  • NVIDIA: 591.59 (desktop and laptop)
  • Intel: 32.0.101.8531
  • NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal: NVIDIA ended Game Ready support for these cards, the last recommended driver is 581.80

Input translators, overlays and recording software can also interfere with the launch. If the game crashes repeatedly, Activision advises uninstalling them.

TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot warning

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory for Black Ops 7 on PC. If your PC doesn’t meet them, the game shows a warning that your system doesn’t meet the security requirements. Such players lose access to some modes and playlists, including Ranked Play, and may be placed in separate matchmaking.

On PC, Black Ops 7 requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Source: Activision / Treyarch (Steam)

Activision requires Windows 10 version 22H2 or newer, TPM 2.0 (Intel 8th gen or newer with Intel PTT, AMD Ryzen 2000 or newer with fTPM, or a discrete dTPM chip), BIOS in UEFI mode rather than Legacy, a GPT system disk rather than MBR, and Secure Boot switched on. To check TPM, press Win+R and run tpm.msc; it should say “The TPM is ready for use”.

The easier route is Activision’s own Call of Duty Secure Attestation Wizard. It checks your PC and tells you what to change, for example “Secure Boot: Not Enabled”, “Boot Partition not set to GPT” or “BIOS Boot mode not set to UEFI”. Make UEFI changes following your motherboard maker’s instructions, as Activision takes no responsibility for BIOS changes. Details are in Activision’s article Trusted Platform Module and Secure Boot.

Connection problems and lag

If the servers are up but you still can’t connect or the game lags, Activision recommends these steps:

  1. Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.
  2. Restart your router.
  3. Limit downloads and streaming on other devices on your network.
  4. Enable UPnP on the router and turn off port forwarding.
  5. If UPnP doesn’t help, try port forwarding with a static IP address.
  6. Console only: as a test, put the console in the DMZ. Remove it from the DMZ after testing.

On Xbox, go to Profile & system › Settings › General › Network settings and run Test network connection and Test multiplayer connection. On PS5, the test is under Settings › Network › Test Internet Connection. The full walkthrough is in Activision’s article Connecting to Black Ops 7.

Where to report a bug

Activision keeps the current list of known issues on the Known Issues in Black Ops 7 page (last updated 9 October 2026). If your problem isn’t there, report it through the Black Ops 7 Bug Report form. PC crashes can also be sent through the Call of Duty PC Crash Report form, which helps the developers track them down.

If the game won’t let you in because of a penalty on your account, that’s not a technical issue. How bans work and which ones can be appealed is explained in our guide to bans and Ricochet. For the latest Call of Duty updates, see our news section.

FAQ

Why can’t I play Black Ops 7 offline?

The game needs a constant internet connection in every mode, including the campaign, because it streams textures as you play. Without a connection it won’t start.

What does error CE-34878-0 mean?

On PlayStation it means the application crashed. Activision advises restarting the game and, if it repeats, updating the system, giving the console enough airflow and deleting old data.

My COD Points show zero after an update. Are they gone?

No. According to Activision it’s a visual bug. Close the game and launch it again, repeating the restart if needed.

Do I need TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on PC?

Yes. Without them the game shows a security warning and locks you out of some modes, including Ranked Play. Check your status with tpm.msc or the Secure Attestation Wizard.

Where can I find the list of known Black Ops 7 issues?

On the Known Issues in Black Ops 7 page on Activision Support. Report new problems with the Black Ops 7 Bug Report form and PC crashes with the PC Crash Report form.
