Since 19 March 2026 the Fortnite Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks, and finishing it earns you up to 800 V-Bucks back. That is exactly the smallest V-Bucks pack, whose price in local currency depends on your country’s store. Below you will find how the pass works, what changed in March 2026, what the Fortnite Crew subscription includes and when the current Override pass ends. Everything here reflects the state on 20 October 2026.
How the Battle Pass works
The Battle Pass is a seasonal set of rewards split into pages. Playing earns you XP, XP raises your level and levels unlock the rewards on each page.

XP counts towards the pass from any Fortnite experience, not only Battle Royale. You progress while playing LEGO, Festival or player-made islands too. Our overview of Fortnite game modes lists what is available.
Some rewards come with special Styles, alternative looks for the same item. Levels alone will not unlock them. You have to complete Quests, which open up only after you claim other rewards from the pass.
What the pass costs in real money
You buy the pass with V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency. The smallest V-Bucks pack holds exactly 800, so if your balance is empty, that pack is the cheapest way in. Its price in local currency depends on your country, so check the store on your platform.
The pricier option is the Battle Bundle: the pass plus 25 levels straight away for 2,600 V-Bucks (previously 2,800). The smallest pack is not enough for that. Pack sizes and the reason you now get fewer V-Bucks are covered in our V-Bucks price guide.
What changed in March 2026
Epic announced new prices on 10 March 2026 and they apply from 19 March 2026. That is why older articles, including our page on whether Fortnite’s free, only say the pass gives back “some” V-Bucks.
| Battle Pass | Before 19 March 2026 | From 19 March 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Pass price | 1,000 V-Bucks | 800 V-Bucks |
| V-Bucks for finishing | 1,000 + 500 in Bonus Rewards | up to 800, no V-Bucks in Bonus Rewards |
| Battle Bundle (pass + 25 levels) | 2,800 V-Bucks | 2,600 V-Bucks |
The pass is cheaper, but it also pays back less. You used to be able to bank extra V-Bucks by completing it. Now it returns at most what it cost. Epic describes this as “enough to get the next Pass with no additional cost”, which holds only if you actually finish the pass.
Other passes: OG, Music and LEGO
The Battle Royale pass is not the only one. Fortnite has three more passes, and Epic cut their prices too, starting with each one’s next pass after 10 March 2026:
- OG Pass for Fortnite OG: 800 V-Bucks (was 1,000).
- Music Pass: 1,200 V-Bucks (was 1,400).
- LEGO Pass: 1,200 V-Bucks (was 1,400).
What is currently running in Fortnite OG is tracked in our current season guide.
Fortnite Crew: the monthly subscription
Fortnite Crew is a monthly subscription. The price depends on your country and is shown in the store on your platform. It renews every month until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.
While your subscription is active, you get:
- full access to the Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass and Music Pass,
- 800 V-Bucks every month (1,000 until March 2026),
- the Crew Pack, a monthly bundle with an exclusive outfit and at least one accessory,
- Rocket Pass Premium in Rocket League as a bonus (Epic says this may change).
The October 2026 Crew Pack is the Osric the Uninvited outfit, the Revenant’s Coffin Back Bling and the Soulspark Lantern pickaxe. Fortnite Crew is also part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, so if you already pay for that, Crew is included.
Battle Pass or Crew?
It comes down to how much you play and how many passes you want. The Battle Pass alone costs 800 V-Bucks once a season, and you earn them back if you finish it. Crew is billed monthly, but you get all four passes at once, 800 V-Bucks a month and the Crew Pack. If you only play Battle Royale and always finish the pass, the pass is enough. If you also want the OG, LEGO and Music passes, add up their prices and compare with the subscription.
The current pass: Override and when it ends
As of 20 October 2026 the active pass belongs to the Override season (Chapter 7 Season 4). Sonic the Hedgehog headlines it, and other skins include Mali, Wrixel, Geno, K1tty W1ns, Phantom, Grace Crowne and Bastian.
According to the pass page, the Override pass ends on 1 November 2026 (Eastern Time). Until then you can gift it to a friend at any point, and if you do, you both get the Peril Peak Mali outfit.
What happens to the items after the pass ends
Battle Pass items may appear for sale in the Item Shop no sooner than 18 months after the pass ends, and the number of alternative styles may differ. If you want a particular pass skin, the next chance comes in a year and a half at the earliest, and only if Epic puts it in the shop at all. How the shop works in general is explained in our Fortnite skins guide.
