SBCs (Squad Building Challenges) in FC 27 are tasks where you hand in cards from your club in exchange for a reward. The new Streamlined SBC format adds up a score for the cards you submit instead of asking for a complete starting eleven. This guide explains how it differs from classic Traditional SBCs, what Item Score is, how duplicates and partial submissions work and where you can complete SBCs. It reflects the game as of 20 October 2026.
What an SBC is and what you get
SBCs have been part of Ultimate Team for almost ten years. You hand in the cards a challenge asks for and get a player, a pack or an upgrade in return. Submitted cards leave your club, but they stay in your FUT Gallery history and keep counting towards sets. Cards you sell count towards the Gallery in the same way.

FC 27 has two SBC formats. Streamlined SBCs are new, and EA uses them for most Player and Upgrade SBCs. Traditional SBCs, the classic puzzle with chemistry, positions and squad rating, remain for puzzle-style Challenge SBCs.
Streamlined vs Traditional SBCs at a glance
| Streamlined SBC | Traditional SBC | |
|---|---|---|
| Used for | Most Player and Upgrade SBCs | Challenge SBCs (puzzles) |
| Requirement | Reach a target score, some with a minimum card OVR | A squad that meets the brief: chemistry, positions, squad rating |
| What matters | Item Score of each card (OVR, rarity, Holographic) | How the squad meets the conditions |
| Duplicates and multiple versions | Yes | You submit a finished squad |
| Partial submissions | Yes, progress is saved | You submit a finished squad |
How a Streamlined SBC works, step by step
- Open the SBC and check the target score and whether there is a minimum card OVR.
- Pick eligible cards from your club. Each one contributes an Item Score based on its OVR and rarity.
- Keep adding cards until you hit the target. You do not need a full eleven or chemistry.
- If you run out of suitable cards, submit part of them and finish later. Partial progress is saved.
Some Streamlined SBCs set a minimum OVR for submitted cards. EA’s example is Player of the Month, where every card has to be at least 75. Others only ask for a total score with no minimum. EA is moving away from overall squad rating requirements, so you can hand in more weaker cards or fewer stronger ones.
Item Score: what goes into it
A card’s Item Score has three parts that stack:
- a base value from its OVR,
- a rarity bonus,
- a Holographic bonus.
A card that qualifies for both bonuses, such as a Holographic Team of the Week (TOTW) card, gets both. Holographic Items are rarer versions of special cards with the same attributes and a different look: Regular Holographic up to 87 OVR, Pristine Holographic from 88 OVR.
The FUT Gallery uses the same score. EA has not published the full table of values. It has only promised significant advance notice before any values change. The tables circulating on fan sites are therefore not official, and we do not reproduce them here.
Duplicates and clearing out your club
Streamlined SBCs accept duplicates and multiple versions of the same card. That lets you turn surplus cards into rewards. Because submitted cards keep counting towards Gallery sets, you do not lose collection progress either.
It also helps that you do not need everything at once. Submit some cards now and the rest after a few more matches or packs. If you are thinking about buying packs, check the FC Points prices first, along with the Pack Probability screen for each pack.
Traditional and Challenge SBCs
Classic SBCs remain for puzzle-style Challenge SBCs. Here you build a squad and manage chemistry, positions and squad rating the way you know from earlier games. Chemistry rules for ICONs and Heroes changed in FC 27, and our FUT beginner’s guide sums them up.
We deliberately do not list solutions for current SBCs. Challenges change with campaigns and Team of the Week releases, so solutions would date quickly.
SBCs in the Companion App and Web App
Streamlined SBCs have worked on consoles and PC since launch. They arrived in the Companion App on 28 September 2026. The Web App has been live since 16 September 2026 and the Companion App since 17 September 2026, so you can manage your club away from the game.
SBC types during campaigns
During campaigns you will see several kinds of SBC:
- Player SBC – the reward is a player.
- Upgrade SBC – the reward is an upgrade, such as a pack.
- Challenge SBC – the classic squad-building puzzle.
- Puzzle SBC – introduced by EA with the Future Stars campaign.
Season 1 campaigns were Ones to Watch, Destined for Glory (from 25 September 2026) and Future Stars (from 9 October 2026). Ultimate Team Season 2 starts on 22 October 2026, and our FC 27 update overview tracks what it brings.
EA describes both SBC formats in its FUT Deep Dive and announces further changes in its official news.
