Conan Exiles Enhanced Mods: How to Enable Them and Which Ones to Try

Conan Exiles Enhanced supports mods, but only the ones their authors have rebuilt for Unreal Engine 5. Mods made for the original version won’t load, and since update 2.2.0 on 15 September 2026 even mods built for Enhanced had to be recooked. Here is how to enable mods, why some of yours stopped working and which ones came out on top in Funcom’s official modding contest.

Does Conan Exiles Enhanced support mods?

Yes. In its launch FAQ, Funcom stated that Enhanced fully supports mods, although some of them need to be upgraded. Mod support was there from day one, and a refreshed Mod Dev Kit shipped alongside Enhanced. Funcom keeps patching it: hotfix 2.1.1 on 26 August 2026, for example, fixed crashes in mods with custom animations.

The catch is the engine. A mod made for the original Unreal Engine 4 version, now called Conan Exiles Legacy, has to be upgraded, recooked and repackaged for UE5 by its author. Until that happens, Enhanced simply skips it. Funcom even handed out rewards for porting UE4 mods to UE5 in its summer contest. For everything else the engine switch changed, see our overview of what’s new.

How to install and enable mods

Mods for Enhanced are published on the Steam Workshop, which is now titled Conan Exiles Enhanced for app 440900. The steps from Funcom’s Help Center:

  1. Open the game’s Workshop and find the mod you want.
  2. Click Subscribe. Steam downloads the mod and keeps it updated for you.
  3. Launch the game and open the mod manager (Mods) from the main menu.
  4. Enable the mod. The same screen lets you disable mods and change their load order.

Funcom wrote that Help Center article for the original version, but the general process still applies to Enhanced: subscribe on the Workshop, enable in the game menu. We are deliberately not giving a folder path for manual installs. The game folder was renamed to Conan Exiles Enhanced during the upgrade, and Funcom hasn’t confirmed where exactly the mods now live.

Outside Steam, Nexus Mods runs a separate section for Conan Exiles Enhanced.

Why your old mods don’t work

If you moved to Enhanced with your old mod list, you will most likely run into one of these:

  • Legacy mods are ignored. According to hotfix 1.0.1 from 6 May 2026, they stay in modlist.txt until you change your active mods. As soon as you edit the list, the game removes them.
  • An outdated mod won’t crash the game. Funcom fixed the mod incompatibility check in the June patch (9 June 2026), so instead of a crash you get a popup saying the mod can’t be loaded.
  • The mod only exists for Legacy. Then it’s a matter of waiting for the author to port it. The Workshop page will show whether an Enhanced version is out.

If you want to keep playing your old mods unchanged, Steam lets you switch back to the Legacy version. It no longer gets updates or official servers, though. More on that in our Enhanced overview.

Update 2.2.0: every mod had to be recooked

Update 2.2.0, released on 15 September 2026, moved the game to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and introduced the Iris networking layer to improve performance on full servers. Serialization changes in the engine meant every mod had to be recooked, including those already released for Enhanced. Funcom flags them as outdated until their authors publish them again.

Two hotfixes followed. The one on 17 September fixed, among other things, loading assets from cooked mods, and hotfix 2.2.2 on 24 September addressed crashes after 2.2.0.

What this means in practice: before enabling a mod, check its last update date on the Workshop. If it’s older than 15 September 2026, the author hasn’t re-released it since 2.2.0 and the game treats it as outdated. With a larger mod pack, go through the dates one by one.

Mods on servers

When you join a server running a different set of mods than yours, the game shows a Mod Mismatch screen. The simplest fix is to run the same mods as the server by subscribing to whatever it uses on the Workshop.

If you rent a server, mods are added through the server panel, and every host has its own process. Follow your provider’s documentation. And before you start building, our guide to the best base locations helps you pick a spot.

Which mods to try: the official contest winners

From 2 July to 21 August 2026, Funcom ran the Forge Your Legacy modding contest. It was open to Enhanced mods uploaded to the Workshop since 5 May 2026, and the ranking was decided by community vote. The results came out on 21 August:

  1. Exotic Oddities – Enhanced (Jintao)
  2. Vampirism & Lycanthropy Ascendant (The Count)
  3. Ironlight-Settlements (Ca$hfire)
  4. Mallicias Gardening and Farming – Enhanced
  5. Savage Paragon
  6. Era of Trials
  7. Festival of the Mist Forge (Enhanced)
  8. Invictus BattleRoyal and Training mod
  9. Beasts And Barbarians
  10. Contextual Ping System

Honourable mentions for ports from Legacy included [Enhanced] Pippi – User & Server Management and Desert Town – Enhanced.

All of these were made for Enhanced, but the contest ended before update 2.2.0. A top placement doesn’t mean a mod runs today, so check the Workshop update date for each one just like for any other mod. For what each mod actually does, go by its author’s Workshop page.

Modders also shape the base game. In the first patch on 19 May 2026, Funcom added saddle dyeing and credited the Fashionist mod by Testerle, whose feature it adopted.

FAQ

Do old mods work in Conan Exiles Enhanced?

No. Mods made for the original Unreal Engine 4 version have to be upgraded, repackaged and re-released for UE5 by their authors. Until then, Enhanced ignores them, and they only stay in your mod list until you next change your active mods.

How do I enable mods in Conan Exiles Enhanced?

Hit Subscribe on the mod’s page in the game’s Steam Workshop, and Steam will download and update it. Then open the mod manager from the main menu, enable the mod and adjust the load order if needed.

Why did my mods stop working after update 2.2.0?

Update 2.2.0 on 15 September 2026 changed serialization in the engine, so every mod had to be recooked. Until the author re-releases it, the game lists it as outdated. Look for a Workshop update dated after 15 September 2026.

Are mods available for Enhanced on consoles?

No. Enhanced is only out on PC via Steam so far, and consoles remain on the original version. Funcom has said it will share more about consoles in October 2026.

Information verified on 26 September 2026. More guides for the game are in our Conan Exiles guides.
