The latest wipe of the official DayZ servers happened on 15 October 2026 with update 1.30 and the release of the DayZ Badlands expansion. Bohemia Interactive announced it as a fresh start for everyone, a full reset on all platforms. A wipe resets the servers: the saved world is deleted and, depending on the announcement, characters too. Below you will find an overview of wipes since 2023, the difference between official and community servers and the answer to when the next one is coming. Valid as of 20 October 2026.
The latest wipe: update 1.30 and Badlands
Update 1.30 was released on 15 October 2026 together with the DayZ Badlands expansion and its Nasdara map. In its announcement Bohemia called it a fresh start for everyone and a full wipe on all platforms, meaning PC, PlayStation and Xbox. If you joined an official server after Badlands launched and started with nothing, this is why.
Update 1.30 also brought motorbikes (a moped and an enduro), more than 150 reworked inventory icons and adjusted animations for the infected to the whole game. The Nasdara map itself is only for expansion owners. What Badlands contains is covered in our DayZ DLC guide.
Official server wipes since 2023
The table sums up the wipes Bohemia announced with major updates. It is based on the official announcements of the DayZ team on Steam.

The table shows that a wipe does not always mean the same thing. With update 1.23 both maps were wiped, but characters and the items they carried stayed. With 1.27 Bohemia stated explicitly that everything goes, characters included. What exactly disappears always depends on the specific announcement.
Why Bohemia wipes with major updates
For update 1.26 and the Frostline expansion, Bohemia explained the reason directly. The update reduced the storage space of clothing and backpacks and introduced a regional loot economy: Sakhal has mostly warm clothing and eastern gear, Livonia mostly summer clothing and western gear, and Chernarus a mix of both. Because of these changes Bohemia wiped the official servers.
Official and community servers
The wipes in the table apply to Bohemia’s official servers. Community servers, which you find on the community tab in the launcher, handle wipes themselves. According to Bohemia’s hosting rules, a server admin may restore or reset the persistence files (saved characters, bases and items) without restriction. When a specific community server wipes is decided by its admin alone.
With update 1.26 Bohemia recommended a wipe to community servers, it did not require one. Whether your community server wiped with 1.30 depends on its admin. Server types and how to find them are explained in our guide to servers and offline.
Experimental servers
On PC there is an experimental build of the game where Bohemia tests new features before release. Experimental servers are wiped separately. In August 2025, for example, Bohemia wiped the experimental servers and characters with the release of 1.29 Experimental.
Wednesday maintenance and losing your character after a restart
Not every missing character is a wipe. According to the DayZ support FAQ, official servers go through maintenance every Wednesday at 8:00 (GMT+1). During that time the server list may be empty, and that is normal.
Support lists losing your character after a server restart as a known issue. It recommends waiting a few minutes after a restart (depending on the server time) before you reconnect. If you joined right after a restart and are starting from scratch, this may be the issue rather than a wipe.
When is the next wipe
Bohemia does not publish a fixed wipe schedule. The announcements of recent years only show that it announces wipes with major updates, such as 1.23, 1.26, 1.27, 1.29 and 1.30. Nobody can reliably predict the date of the next one. Bohemia announces wipes in the DayZ team’s posts on Steam, the latest in the Badlands announcement.
