Elden Ring cheats: why there are none and the ban risk of Cheat Engine and mods

Short answer: Elden Ring has no cheats. There are no cheat codes, no command console and no hidden menu. Everything labelled online as “Elden Ring cheats” is a third-party tool, typically a Cheat Engine table, and those only work on PC and only offline. Here’s what Easy Anti-Cheat means for you, what the publisher says about unauthorised items, when you risk a ban and how to make the game easier the legitimate way. You won’t find a cheating tutorial here. Everything is current as of 20 October 2026 (patch 1.17).

Why Elden Ring has no cheats

FromSoftware didn’t put any cheat codes or developer console into the game. No official source and no outlet lists any. What players call cheats are community tools that modify the running game’s memory, such as your rune count or the items in your inventory. They have nothing to do with the game itself, and the publisher doesn’t support them.

Easy Anti-Cheat

The PC version of Elden Ring uses Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). The patch notes on Steam regularly mention updates and fixes to it.

Cheat tables and mods that tamper with the game’s memory therefore require you to disable EAC and play offline. With EAC off, though, online features stop working: no co-op, no invasions and no messages from other players. Playing online also requires the latest version of the game, which is patch 1.17 as of 20 October 2026.

What the publisher says about unauthorised items

The official position is in the patch notes for 1.06 on Steam. Since that version, items that can’t normally be obtained in the game are displayed as “ERROR”. According to FromSoftware, holding and using them will, after a certain period, be subject to a warning or penalty.

“Inappropriate activity detected” without cheating

The PC version can sometimes show the message “Inappropriate activity detected” even if you haven’t cheated. Bandai Namco lists it as a known issue in the patch notes for 1.16, and the official fix is simple: verify the integrity of the game files in Steam and restart the game.

Cheat Engine and mods: offline only, and risky

If you go online with a modified character, PC Gamer says you risk a temporary or permanent ban. GamesRadar+ warns that players who bring mods into online play are risking a ban too.

This isn’t just theory. PC Gamer reported that the player known as “Let Me Solo Her” received a 180-day penalty in 2024 for a mod that added dance emotes. It’s one specific case, not a rule for how long a ban lasts. PC Gamer also points out that the Cheat Engine installer comes bundled with third-party adware.

The community mod Seamless Co-op for PC works on the same principle. It uses its own launcher without EAC and its own save files, so you play with friends away from the official servers and never meet regular players or invaders. The mod is unofficial, and the online risk applies all the same. The official way to play with friends is covered in our co-op guide.

Cheats on PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch 2

There are no cheats or mods on consoles. Neither the publisher nor any outlet mentions anything of the kind, and mods are purely a PC thing. On PlayStation, Xbox and in the Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, you play the game as FromSoftware released it.

How to make Elden Ring easier legitimately

If the game is grinding you down, there are more legitimate options than cheats:

Tough fights can be won without cheats, for example on horseback or with spirits. Source: FromSoftware / Bandai Namco (Steam)
  • Spirits: with the Spirit Calling Bell you summon Spirit Ashes at a Rebirth Monument to fight alongside you.
  • Co-op partners: for a tough boss you can summon up to two players using the Furlcalling Finger Remedy and golden signs.
  • Weapon upgrades: when levels stop helping, upgrade your weapon with Smithing Stones.
  • A different order: skip a strong enemy and come back once you’re stronger.
  • Respec: if your build didn’t work out, defeat Rennala and reallocate your stats for a Larval Tear.

Tips for the opening hours are in our beginner’s guide, and levelling and respec are explained in our guide to Elden Ring stats.
