Ubisoft is handing out its medieval multiplayer fighting game For Honor to PC players for free – and not as a weekend trial. Once you claim it, the game stays in your library permanently. The catch is the deadline: the promotion ends on September 28 at 4:30 PM, so you have a limited window to grab a title that normally sells for $29.99.
How to claim For Honor for free
The giveaway runs through Ubisoft’s own store and is part of the publisher’s 40th anniversary celebrations. To take advantage of it you need two things:

- the Ubisoft Connect app, which is also required to run the game.

What For Honor actually is
For Honor launched in 2017 as a melee-focused multiplayer fighting game set in a brutal medieval world – some players describe it as Call of Duty with swords and spears. You can team up with up to three other players for team-based modes or go head to head in 1v1 duels. There are multiple classes to pick from, spread across historical warrior factions: Samurai, Vikings and Knights.
The combat is the part that sets it apart. For Honor uses a three-directional attack and parry system, which adds a technical, demanding layer you rarely find in more streamlined PvP fighting games. The game is still alive in 2026
Despite being close to a decade old, For Honor keeps receiving seasonal updates, and SteamDB data shows it regularly pulls more than 5,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.
On September 10 the game got its Year 10, Season 3 update, titled Blood Hunt. Its headline addition is Ranked Dominion, a competitive mode where you play for prestigious badges such as Grand Master. That update alone had the potential to push player numbers up, and the free giveaway should help For Honor reach an even wider audience.
Not everything around the game has been positive lately, though. One of the last times For Honor made headlines was the announcement that it would drop support for Linux and Steam Deck – a decision plenty of fans took badly.
