RP is the only currency in League of Legends you can pay for with real money, and it’s also the most common reason players reach for a payment card at all. This article explains what RP is, what it currently costs in euros (and in Czech koruna in the Czech Republic), where and how to top it up legally, and what you actually get for it, plus what you’re better off avoiding completely when buying RP.
What RP is and what it’s for
RP (Riot Points, now officially just “RP”) is the premium currency of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, and the only way to get it is to buy it with real money. Unlike Blue Essence, which you collect by playing, RP can’t be earned by playing matches at all. It’s shared across both of Riot’s PC games, so whatever you top up can be spent in LoL as well as in TFT.
With RP you mainly buy cosmetics and convenience, not a gameplay advantage: skins, chromas, emotes, summoner icons, battle passes and level skips, Hextech Crafting keys and chests, premium Clash tickets, or eternals (champion stat trackers). Current RP prices in euros and Czech koruna
The Czech Republic has its own price tier in koruna, separate from the eurozone. Riot adjusts prices for individual regions from time to time based on exchange rates and the local economy; the last across-the-board change in the Czech Republic came in September 2024, when RP and TFT coin prices dropped by roughly 9%. Slovakia is part of the eurozone, so the same euro figures apply there as in the rest of the eurozone: for example, a €10 bundle gives you 1,380 RP and €20 gives you 2,800 RP.

RP bundles aren’t a sliding scale but fixed tiers, usually with a small bonus on top at higher amounts: the more you spend at once, the slightly better ratio of money to RP you get. The most reliable way to see the exact, current price list on any given day is directly in the game client or in your account on leagueoflegends.com, because Riot can change it at any time without much notice.
Where and how to top up RP legally
The only officially supported ways to get RP are the store directly in the game client, your account on leagueoflegends.com, or prepaid gift cards and vouchers sold in physical stores and by licensed online retailers. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, for example, this in practice means paying by card or via PayPal directly in the client, or using paysafecard, a prepaid payment method that needs no bank account or credit card, just a purchased code. Depending on the region, other methods such as mobile payment, SOFORT, iDEAL or gift cards like Openbucks are often available too.
Paysafecard is handy mainly for younger players or for anyone who doesn’t want to tie payments to a card: you buy the code at a newsstand or an electronics store and then enter it directly in Riot’s payment interface. Fixed-value RP gift vouchers (typically in local currency) are also sold by specialized digital code retailers. That’s a legitimate, licensed route, but it’s worth checking that the retailer really is authorized and isn’t reselling from a gray market.
RP and Blue Essence: two different currencies, two different purposes
League of Legends has two in-game currencies, and it’s easy to mix them up, especially as a new player. Blue Essence is the currency you earn by playing: for completed matches, your first win of the day, leveling up your account and event missions. It’s primarily used to unlock champions and a few other small things, and you can’t buy a skin with it. RP is the exact opposite: you can’t earn it by playing at all, you can only buy it with real money, and it’s mainly for cosmetics and convenience, although in theory you can buy a champion with it too.
In practice this means you never have to pay to play what interests you gameplay-wise: you’ll unlock champions gradually without spending anything. When RP is better value
From time to time Riot runs promotions where you get bonus RP for the same amount of money, typically around the game’s anniversary, at the end of the year or when a big new event launches. These bonuses only last for a limited time and are usually announced directly in the client or on the official website, so you can’t plan for them in advance without following the latest news.
As a general rule, one larger purchase is more efficient than repeated small top-ups: higher price bundles tend to have a slightly better ratio of money to RP thanks to the bonus on top. But there’s no point buying more RP than you’ll realistically spend in the near future. RP on your account doesn’t go stale or expire, but money needlessly tied up in in-game currency does you no good until you spend it on a specific item you actually want.
What you can and can’t buy with RP
With RP you can get skins and their variants (chromas), emotes, summoner icons, ward skins, season battle passes and their level skips, Hextech keys and chests, premium Clash tickets, eternals and various account services, such as a name change or a transfer to another server. You can also buy a champion directly, although in the long run that’s not as good value as paying with Blue Essence.
What you can’t buy with RP: ranked progress, LP, a ranked border or the seasonal Victorious skin. Those are earned only by playing and meeting the requirements in ranked, not by paying. RP also can’t be exchanged back for real money, given to another player as a cash gift, or moved between accounts. Once you top it up on an account, it stays tied to that account.
What to avoid
Riot is clear that RP can only be bought through the official store in the client or through prepaid cards sold in stores. Anything else offering you “cheaper RP” outside these channels should be treated as a risk, not a bargain. The RP gray market typically runs on stolen payment cards or on accounts bought with stolen login details. Sooner or later Riot detects such transactions, pulls the RP back from the account, and the account can get a temporary or permanent ban, even if you didn’t steal anything yourself and just bought from the wrong seller.
Just as risky are websites that promise RP far below the normal price in exchange for your account login details “for verification” or for installing some tool. That is practically always phishing. The surest sign of a safe purchase is simple: you always pay directly in the game client, on the leagueoflegends.com or riotgames.com domain, or with a prepaid card retailer you’d also find outside a gaming context (say, at a regular newsstand or a retail chain). Anything that asks for your game account password outside the game’s own login screen should be treated as a scam, no matter how trustworthy the website looks.
Likewise, there’s no point solving a shortage of RP or Blue Essence by selling or buying someone else’s account. Under the terms of service, accounts are personal and non-transferable, both selling and buying are prohibited, and you risk penalties on the account no matter how much you’ve invested in it before. The only safe way to more content is to top up RP on your own account through official channels, or to wait and earn it gradually through events and free rewards that Riot offers from time to time.
