Naughty Dog’s Road Ahead: Intergalactic, More Last of Us and a Leaked Uncharted

Naughty Dog is one of the few PlayStation studios whose next move gets dissected line by line, and right now there’s a lot to dissect. The studio has two projects out in the open, one more that leaked ahead of any official reveal, and a release calendar that may stretch far enough to bump into new hardware.

A generation with almost nothing new

Naughty Dog’s track record runs from the original Crash Bandicoot games on PS1 through Jak and Daxter, and then into the more grounded third-person action of Uncharted and the post-apocalyptic horror of The Last of Us. On PS5, though, the studio has only put out a remake of the first The Last of Us and a remaster of The Last of Us Part 2 – no brand-new game this generation so far.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the next one up

The sci-fi action-adventure Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is rumored to land at some point in 2027. Don’t expect a drip feed of details in the meantime: Naughty Dog has said it is staying quiet about the game for the rest of the year, so any meaningful new information should arrive next year at the earliest. The studio’s own announcement post remains the baseline for what’s officially known.

Multiple Last of Us projects, no details

Naughty Dog has confirmed that more than one The Last of Us project is in development, but it has not said what those projects actually are. The options fans keep circling back to include reviving work from the canceled The Last of Us multiplayer game in some form, or a full The Last of Us Part 3. Until Naughty Dog decides to show something, it’s guesswork – and the wait could be longer than people expect.

The leaked Uncharted

According to leaks, the studio’s next major release after Intergalactic won’t be a The Last of Us game at all. A new Uncharted is said to be in active development, and the few details attached to it are that it’s a brand-new entry rather than a remake, and that series mainstay Nathan Drake will appear in some capacity.

Treat that as unconfirmed, but it’s not hard to see the logic. Uncharted 4 closed the story out cleanly, yet the brand is far too valuable for PlayStation to simply shelve.

Why PlayStation 6 enters the conversation

Here’s the timing problem. Court documents previously indicated Sony was planning a PlayStation 6 for some point in 2028. The ongoing RAM crisis, the broader economic situation and supply chain pressure could all push that back, but if 2028 holds and Naughty Dog keeps its usual pace, a new Uncharted plausibly becomes a next-gen release. Sony also supported the PS4 with cross-gen launches for years, so a PS5/PS6 dual release wouldn’t be out of character either.

What this means for you

  • Nothing new from Naughty Dog is coming this year – the studio is deliberately silent on Intergalactic.
  • 2027 is the current rumored window for Intergalactic, and it’s a PS5 title.
  • More The Last of Us is officially happening, but with zero specifics attached.
  • If you’re hoping for Uncharted 5, be ready for the possibility that it arrives on hardware you don’t own yet.

FAQ

When is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet coming out?

It’s rumored for some point in 2027. Naughty Dog has not confirmed a firm date, and the studio said it won’t be sharing new information about the game for the rest of this year.

Is The Last of Us Part 3 confirmed?

No. Naughty Dog has confirmed that multiple The Last of Us projects are in development, but it hasn’t said what they are. Part 3 is one possibility; reworking the canceled multiplayer game is another.

Is a new Uncharted officially announced?

No. The new Uncharted comes from leaks, not an official reveal. The leaked details say it’s a brand-new game rather than a remake and that Nathan Drake features in it somehow.

Could the new Uncharted be a PlayStation 6 game?

It’s possible. Court documents previously pointed to Sony planning a PlayStation 6 for around 2028, and given Naughty Dog’s development timelines, the new Uncharted could land on next-gen hardware – potentially as a cross-gen release, as Sony did during the PS4-to-PS5 transition.

Has Naughty Dog released anything new on PS5?

Only a remake of the first The Last of Us and a remaster of The Last of Us Part 2. No brand-new Naughty Dog game has launched this generation so far.
