The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 keeps collecting features the Nintendo 64 original never had. Nintendo has now officially confirmed that the remake will work with Zelda Notes, the companion service built into the Nintendo Switch App on smartphones.
What Zelda Notes brings to the remake
The confirmation came from the official Zelda of Japan account on X. Nintendo describes Zelda Notes as a set of functions meant to let you dig deeper into the game, and for Ocarina of Time the list includes:
- access to the game’s map
- quests
- a record log of what you’ve done
- a profile
- the Trails of Time feature
- amiibo options
- an option to play the Ocarina of Time itself
- a game quiz
Nintendo says those are among the options, so the final feature set may be broader once the game is out.
Ocarina of Time joins Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
Zelda Notes was designed around helping players with the franchise’s most recent titles, and it already supports The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Ocarina of Time now joins that group with its own functionality – which is notable, because the remake is built on a game from an era when smartphones, companion apps and always-available online guides simply didn’t exist.
Another step in the remake’s modernization
Nintendo had already confirmed Trails of Time, a quest log-style feature the N64 version never offered, and Zelda Notes pushes that modernization even further. The remake is being rebuilt specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 and comes with completely overhauled graphics, expanded dialogue, enhanced controls and a modernized camera, so it’s shaping up to be far more than a visual touch-up of the classic.
That raises the obvious question for players: how much of the original’s “figure it out yourself” design survives when a map, a quest list and a progress log live on your phone? Ocarina of Time is still the highest-rated game of all time, which means any re-release gets measured against a very high bar – and how longtime fans take to a smartphone companion is one of the things worth watching once the full game is in their hands.
