Yes, Path of Exile 2 supports both crossplay and cross-progression. Grinding Gear Games (GGG) promises them on every supported platform: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of 20 October 2026 the game is still in Early Access on version 0.5.5e, and a few things still stay tied to the platform you use. Here is who you can play with, how to link your account and where the limits are.
Crossplay and cross-progression: what GGG promised
GGG’s official line from its console announcement (31 May 2024) reads: “full cross-play and cross-progression on all supported platforms”. In practice that means two things. You can group up with friends who play on a different platform, and you can move from console to PC, for example, without losing your progress. The original post is on the GGG forum.
The Microsoft Store listing for Path of Exile 2 also names cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op, both online and in local co-op. Everything hangs on a single Path of Exile account that holds your characters.
Which platforms PoE2 runs on
| Platform | Where you get it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | standalone client from pathofexile2.com, Steam, Epic Games Store | Windows only |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store | PS5 version (PS5 Pro Enhanced), no PS4 |
| Xbox Series X|S | Microsoft Store | “Game Preview” for Xbox Series, no Xbox One |
There is no macOS or Linux support. Steam lists Windows only, and GGG’s website only offers a Windows installer. What you pay on each platform is covered in our PoE2 price guide.
How to link your account to a platform
It all starts with a Path of Exile account. You link it to Steam, Epic, PlayStation or Xbox on pathofexile.com under my-account/connections, a page that only opens once you are signed in. The link is what tells the game that the characters on your console and on your PC belong to the same person.
If you played Path of Exile 1, don’t make a new account. Your PoE 1 account works in Path of Exile 2 as well, and purchases are shared between the two games. Stash tabs bought in PoE 1 carry over to PoE 2 “where relevant”.
Linking early also pays off for the full release. The 1.0 sign-up rewards can be redeemed on Steam, Epic, PlayStation and Xbox, but only with a linked account. The details are in our full release guide.
What does not carry over between platforms
Early Access purchases are per platform
This is the most common trap. According to GGG’s Early Access FAQ, buying on PC (GGG’s website, Steam or Epic) unlocks access for the PC clients. If you have access in one PC client and want to play in another, you claim a key at my-account/early-access. A purchase in a console store, however, only unlocks Early Access on the console where you bought it. A pack from the PlayStation Store won’t give you access on Xbox or PC.
Stash tabs become remove-only
Stash tabs you don’t own on the platform you are logged into are “remove-only” there. You can take items out, but you can’t put anything in. Keep that in mind if you switch between PC and console and want to store loot.
Co-op: up to six players online, plus couch co-op
Online co-op supports up to six players in a party, as both Steam and the PlayStation Store state. Thanks to crossplay, that party can span different platforms.

Path of Exile 2 also has couch co-op, meaning local co-op on one screen. According to GGG, the second player creates a character on the same account, so you play together under one account on one console or PC. On PC a controller works too, as Steam lists full controller support including DualShock and DualSense.
How to pick a league so your friends share the same economy, and how classes work, is explained in our beginner’s guide.
You need an internet connection
Path of Exile 2 requires an internet connection. Steam lists a broadband connection and the PlayStation Store says “Online play required”. The game has no offline mode, so solo play without a connection isn’t an option either.
What changes on 11 December 2026
According to GGG’s announcement, Path of Exile 2 launches as free-to-play version 1.0 on 11 December 2026 (Pacific time). Until then you play in paid Early Access, and the per-platform purchase rule above applies. GGG has announced the full release for PC (standalone client, Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation and Xbox.
