An open-world survival game called Stormforge is heading to early access, and it is already pulling serious attention on Steam. The project from developer Roboto Games has passed 100,000 wishlists, which is an early signal that it could become one of the bigger genre releases of the season. You will not have to wait long either – early access starts on November 10, 2026.
The comparisons write themselves: survival loop, crafting, base building, co-op. But Stormforge does not look like the games it gets compared to. Instead of a retro-modern pixelated style, Roboto Games went with cel-shading, so the world lands closer visually to something like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The studio has said the game pulls inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons and the Stormlight Archive novels, with art direction shaped by Jean “Moebius” Giraud and Miyazaki.
Magical storms are the twist
The core survival loop will feel familiar – gather, craft, build, fight – but the storms are what set Stormforge apart. Dangerous tornado zones are scattered across the map, and you have to walk into them to progress. Inside, you fight bosses to earn skill points.
Those storms are genuinely hostile. They can kill you by hurling nearby boulders at you, and they can inflict a fatal storm corruption effect. They also hide mythical creatures that work as the game’s boss encounters, and beating them is how you get rare materials for high-level gear and weapons. Tornadoes can also wreck your base, so where you build matters.

Co-op scales enemies to your group
Up to eight players can team up, and the most interesting part of that mode is the proximity-based enemy HP system. If one squad member wanders off to explore alone, the enemies they run into will have lower HP than the ones the full group faces together. Stormforge is not the first co-op survival game to do this, but it removes a lot of the usual friction when your friends want to split up and cover more ground.
What early access actually includes
At launch on November 10, 2026, the early access build will ship with three biomes and several different classes to experiment with. Roboto Games says more genre staples are still in development and will arrive in later updates, including farming. In other words, treat the November build as the foundation rather than the finished game.
If you want to follow the game before release, the studio runs an official site, and we collect everything we publish about the game on our Stormforge news page.
