Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition both launched on 19 May 2020, and both include every story DLC. Mafia II is a remaster of the 2010 game, while Mafia III is the original 2016 game with all its add-ons in one package. This guide covers exactly what each edition includes, what they cost on Steam, which PC specs you need and what the new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of Mafia III changed. Everything here is current as of 19 October 2026.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition: what’s included
The original Mafia II came out on 23 August 2010 and follows Vito Scaletta in Empire Bay in 1943. The Definitive Edition is a remaster, and the package contains:
- the base game,
- all story DLC: Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy’s Vendetta and Joe’s Adventures,
- the Greaser, Renegade, Vegas and War Hero bonus packs, which unlock as you complete chapters.
Mafia II (Classic) and old saves
Anyone who owned the original Mafia II on Steam got the Definitive Edition for free. The old version stayed in the store as Mafia II (Classic), listed with 2K Czech as developer. If you buy Mafia II: Definitive Edition or the whole Trilogy on Steam today, you get the Classic version as well. Old saves from Classic can be transferred to the Definitive Edition on Steam.
Consoles work differently. On PS4 and Xbox One, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a separate new title, with no free move from the old version.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition: what’s included
Mafia III launched on 7 October 2016 and tells the story of Lincoln Clay in New Bordeaux in 1968. The Definitive Edition is the original game with all of its DLC:
- story DLC Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times,
- bonus packs Family Kick-Back Pack and Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack.
The DLC missions open up after the mission “Sit Down”, once Lincoln has all three underbosses. Owners of the original Mafia III on PS4, Xbox One and Steam received the Definitive Edition for free.
Mafia III on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
For its tenth anniversary, Mafia III: Definitive Edition got a native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version on 8 October 2026. It runs at 60 FPS and fixes issues with mission progression and trophies. The upgrade is free for PS4 owners (disc and digital) and for digital Xbox One owners. Saves and trophies don’t carry over. There’s more detail in our story on the Mafia III upgrade.
Steam got an update the same day: fixes for missions that could get stuck, new FPS caps of 120, 144, 180 and 240, an option to turn off window borders and a fix for subtitle settings resetting.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition has no native PS5 or Xbox Series version. 2K hadn’t announced one as of 19 October 2026; only Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia III have next-gen versions. The PlayStation Store lists Mafia II as a PS4 game.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition is also available for Mac on Steam. Valve rates both games “Playable” on Steam Deck. Mafia II: Definitive Edition can launch in the wrong language on the Deck. 2K’s fix is to set Disable Launcher to On under Options > Game Settings and restart, after which the game uses your Steam language.
Launch state and fixes
After both remasters came out in May 2020, the developers acknowledged reports of technical problems and released patches for PS4, Xbox One and PC on 18 June 2020. 2K’s support site doesn’t keep a current list of “known issues”. For Mafia III, the next round of fixes came with the 8 October 2026 update mentioned above.
