What Battlefield REDSEC is

REDSEC is a standalone free-to-play game set in the world of Battlefield 6. On Steam it’s listed as its own free title. At launch it offered three modes: Battle Royale, Gauntlet and Portal. Gauntlet was removed with the start of Season 5 on 13 October 2026, so today it’s all about battle royale and its variants.

REDSEC has no campaign, which belongs to the paid Battlefield 6. Differences between the editions and the price of the full game are covered in our editions and price guide.

You can download it from its Steam store page.

Battle Royale on Fort Lyndon

The main mode holds 100 players. You play either in a four-player squad (25 squads) or as a duo (50 duos). According to EA, Fort Lyndon is the largest map in Battlefield history.

What sets REDSEC apart from other battle royales:

  • Vehicles: helicopters, boats and even golf carts.
  • Tactical destruction: just like in Battlefield 6 multiplayer, you can tear the environment apart.
  • The ring: EA calls it the “deadliest ring” in battle royale.
  • Classes: you play the Battlefield 6 classes, tuned for battle royale.

Rapid Royale and Ranked in Season 5

Season 5, Siege of Vegas, which started on 13 October 2026, added Rapid Royale to REDSEC. You play in Trios or Solos with fewer players. Getting a kill lets you redeploy, and the ring of fire closes in faster. Rapid Royale is played on Vegas Strip and Mirak Valley.

The season also kicked off a new Ranked BR season. What else Season 5 brought and what EA has planned for November and December is covered in our current season guide.

The Season 5 plan is in EA’s roadmap.

Classes in REDSEC

In battle royale, classes have adjusted abilities and their own Training Paths. In Season 5, EA went further:

  • The alternative Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher trainings were removed from battle royale.
  • The Supply Bag, Smoke Launcher and the Recon drone are no longer default gear, you’ll find them as loot.
  • In return, Support got Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover, and Recon got the Handheld Jammer.

How the classes work in regular multiplayer is explained in our classes guide.

Portal: build your own modes

Portal is a sandbox where the community builds its own modes. You can move and scale objects, script NPC behaviour and create your own UI. As of 5 October 2026, EA counts 700,000 Portal experiences.

In REDSEC you get Portal with the REDSEC content set. If you also own Battlefield 6, you can combine content from both games in Portal. With Battlefield Pro you can also host a Portal server for up to 100 players.

Your progress carries over to Battlefield 6

Nothing you earn in REDSEC goes to waste. Your rank, unlocked weapons and cosmetics carry over to the full game. If you buy or try Battlefield 6 later, you start with what you already have.

One shared Battle Pass

The Battle Pass covers both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. It costs 1,100 BFC (Battlefield Coins), and on Steam 1,100 BFC costs €9.99. Battlefield Pro (Battle Pass, 25 tier skips, +5% XP, a bonus path and Portal hosting) costs €24.99 on Steam and can only be bought with real money. If you already own the Battle Pass and upgrade to Pro, you get your 1,100 BFC back.

Steam Deck: REDSEC doesn’t run

REDSEC won’t run on the Steam Deck. Steam lists Battlefield 6 as “Unsupported”, and according to PCGamesN, the anticheat blocks every version of the game on Steam Deck, REDSEC included. What the game needs on PC is in our system requirements guide.
