Battlefield 6 classes: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon explained

Battlefield 6 has four multiplayer classes: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. Each has its own role in the squad, signature weapons, a trait (passive perk), a gadget, an ability and two Training Paths that shape it further. This guide covers all four based on EA’s official descriptions, explains how weapons work across classes and what’s different about classes in the REDSEC battle royale. It reflects the state of the game on 19 October 2026, at the start of Season 5.

Assault: first on the objective

Assault is the frontline class, built around mobility. It can carry a second primary weapon, so you have two main guns instead of one. Its signature weapons are assault rifles: with them, Assault draws faster and can fire sooner after sprinting.

  • Trait Mission-Focused – faster objective play, including M-COM stations.
  • Gadget Adrenaline Injector.
  • Ability Rally Squad.
  • Training Paths – Frontliner and Breacher.

Engineer: the answer to tanks and helicopters

Engineer is the class for dealing with tanks, helicopters and jets. It carries rocket launchers and mines and is the only class that can repair vehicles and equipment. Its signature weapons are SMGs, which give it better hip-fire.

  • Trait Mechanized Infantry.
  • Gadget Repair Tool – the tool you use to repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability Power Fix.
  • Training Paths – Anti-Armor and Combat Engineer.

Support: healing, ammo and cover

Support keeps the squad alive. It heals, resupplies ammo, deploys cover and can intercept grenades and rockets. It’s the LMG specialist: carrying a light machine gun doesn’t slow its sprint.

  • Trait Squad Supplies.
  • Gadget Supply Bag.
  • Ability Restock Abilities – among other things, revives a teammate in 2.5 seconds.
  • Training Paths – Combat Medic and Fire Support.

Recon: sniper and the squad’s eyes

Recon is the sniper and scout. It works with drones and a laser designator and brings C4 for tanks. Its signature weapons are sniper rifles.

  • Trait Auto-Spot – automatically spots the enemy you aim at.
  • Gadget Motion Sensor.
  • Ability UAV Overwatch.
  • Training Paths – Sniper and Pathfinder.

Weapons across classes

Any class can carry any weapon. You only get the bonuses with your own class’s signature weapons, though, so an Engineer gets better hip-fire only with an SMG and an Assault draws faster only with an assault rifle. Official playlists also include a variant where weapons are locked to classes. There, a Recon can’t pick up an assault rifle.

Classes in REDSEC

In the free-to-play battle royale Battlefield REDSEC, the four classes are the same but come with adjusted abilities and their own Training Paths. In Season 5 (from 13 October 2026), EA made these battle royale changes:

  • Removed the alternative Training Paths Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher.
  • Moved the Supply Bag, Smoke Launcher and Recon drone into the loot pool, so you have to find them on the map.
  • Gave Support Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover instead, and Recon a Handheld Jammer.

Everything else Season 5 brought is covered in our current season guide.

Which class to start with

There’s no single best class; it depends on what you want to do in a match. Choose by role:

  • Want to be first on the objective and keep moving? Assault.
  • Tired of enemy tanks and helicopters, or like driving vehicles? Engineer.
  • Enjoy keeping your squad alive and stocked with ammo? Support.
  • Prefer playing at range and calling out enemies? Recon.

Engineer is built for fighting vehicles, while infantry-only maps have no tanks to fight. You’ll find which maps those are in our Battlefield 6 maps list. EA also runs an official Battlefield 101 guide in its Onboarding Hub, with class details on its classes page. More tips for your first matches are in our beginner’s guide.

FAQ

How many classes does Battlefield 6 have?

Four: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. Each has signature weapons, a trait, a gadget, an ability and two Training Paths.

Which class repairs vehicles?

Only Engineer. It has the Repair Tool gadget and the Power Fix ability, plus rocket launchers and mines against vehicles.

Which class revives fastest?

Support. Its Restock Abilities ability lets it revive a teammate in 2.5 seconds.

Are REDSEC classes the same as in Battlefield 6?

They’re the same four classes, but with adjusted abilities and their own Training Paths. In Season 5, the Supply Bag, Smoke Launcher and Recon drone are found as loot in the battle royale.
