As of 20 October 2026, the current PC version of Hollow Knight: Silksong is 1.0.30000, which is Patch 5 from 16 March 2026. It’s also the most recent official Silksong announcement from Team Cherry, both on its blog and on Steam. The Sea of Sorrow expansion will be free for all players and was announced for 2026, but no release date has been given yet (as of 20 October 2026). Below you’ll find every patch so far, exactly what Team Cherry has said about Sea of Sorrow, and what we still don’t know.
Current version: Patch 5 (1.0.30000)
Patch 5 went live on 16 March 2026. PC players got it straight away, and Team Cherry said consoles would follow “soon”. The studio described it as the last significant update before the Sea of Sorrow expansion. As of 20 October 2026, Team Cherry has not announced any other patch on its blog or on Steam, nor said when Patch 5 reached consoles.
For everyday play, Patch 5 is mostly bug fixes plus two practical changes: a new bench beside Pale Lake, available before the Flea Caravan arrives, and a tweak to the Magma Bell tool, which now protects against all fire-type explosions. On the language side, it added Traditional Chinese and reworked the German translation.
One thing worth knowing from the official help page: once a save has been opened in a newer version of the game, an older version can’t load it (the game reports “Version Incompatible”). If you ever roll back to an older build for any reason, back up your save first.

What the patches changed for players
A gentler start and more rosaries
Patch 1 had the biggest impact on gameplay. It made the first bosses, Moorwing and Sister Splinter, slightly easier, reduced damage from Sandcarvers and added more rosaries (the main currency) from relics, psalm cylinders and courier deliveries. It also made Bellway and Bell Bench cheaper in the mid game. The opening hours are a bit kinder today than they were at launch. What the reviews say about the challenge is covered in our Silksong difficulty piece, and managing your money is covered in the rosary farming guide.
The Patch 1 fixes apply retroactively. If a bug blocked your progress, updating the game unblocks it.
Tools and Silk Skills
Patch 3 adjusted the strength of several attacks. The Silk Skills (abilities paid for with silk) Sharp Dart and Cross Stitch deal slightly more damage, while Thread Storm deals less at higher needle levels. Crafting Kits were fixed as well and now also increase the damage of offensive blue tools. How tool colours and Crafting Kits work is explained in our guide to Tools and Crests.
Controls and graphics
PC gained new graphics options: dithering (Patch 2, off by default), then extra dithering levels with “low” as the default and a film grain effect (Patch 4, off by default). Patch 3 added support for the DualSense Edge controller and an automatic pause when a controller disconnects. Patch 4 moved to the Unity Input System, so vibration now works on more controllers. If the new system doesn’t suit you, on PC you can switch back to the original one under Advanced Settings in the controller menu. Hardware and Steam Deck details are in our system requirements guide.
Sea of Sorrow: what we know and what we don’t
Team Cherry announced the expansion on 15 December 2025 in its end-of-year post. Officially, this is what we know:
- Sea of Sorrow is Silksong’s first major expansion.
- It will be free for all players.
- It has a nautical theme, with Team Cherry talking about “salt-stricken seas”.
- It brings new areas, bosses, tools and more.
- It was announced with a 2026 window.
What we don’t know: the release date or any further details. Team Cherry promised more information shortly before release, and as of 20 October 2026 it hasn’t published anything new. The March 2026 Patch 5 post only mentions the expansion as the next big step. We’re not repeating any guesses about the date or content. Once Team Cherry announces a date, we’ll update this article.
The official sources worth following are the Team Cherry blog and the announcements on the game’s Steam page. What the game costs and which subscriptions include it is covered in our price and platforms guide.
Hollow Knight on current consoles
In the same post, Team Cherry also announced an upgraded version of the original Hollow Knight. It launched on 5 February 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with higher frame rates and higher resolutions. Owners of the Switch, PS4 and Xbox versions got the upgrade for free. If you want to catch up on the first game before Silksong, it’s now available in better shape on current consoles.
