Hollow Knight: Silksong rosaries: how to get them, keep them and farm them

Rosaries are the main currency in Hollow Knight: Silksong. You spend them at merchants, on maps and on fast travel stations, and when you die they stay behind where you fell. This guide covers where rosaries come from, how a Rosary String keeps them safe and where to farm them early in Mosshome and Greymoor. It applies to all platforms, as of 20 October 2026 (version 1.0.30000 on PC).

What rosaries are and what you spend them on

Rosaries (also called Rosary Beads in the game) are what merchants want. You use them to buy maps and mapping supplies from the cartographer Shakra (you first meet her in The Marrow), loadout upgrades such as Crafting Kits and Tool Pouches, and to unlock Bellway fast travel stations. Bellways open up after you defeat the Bell Beast, and each further station costs rosaries.

Don’t mix them up with Shell Shards. Those are used to restock red tools at benches, and you don’t lose them when you die. How tools and restocking work is covered in our guide to Tools and Crests.

Where to get rosaries

Rosaries come from three main sources:

  • The world: break hanging strings and statues with beads, open chests and pick up strings you find along the way.
  • Enemies: not all of them, only some. Mostly the “humanoid” pilgrims.
  • Rewards: since Patch 1, relics, psalm cylinders and courier deliveries pay out more rosaries.

If it feels like enemies aren’t dropping anything, that’s not a bug. Plenty of creatures simply don’t carry rosaries. It pays to search rooms thoroughly and to revisit older areas with new abilities, because that’s where you’ll often find paths you couldn’t reach before.

How to keep your rosaries

The cocoon after death

When you die, the rosaries you’re carrying stay where you died, wrapped in a cocoon. Go back, break the cocoon and collect them. Shell Shards aren’t lost on death, so you don’t need to worry about those.

Rosary String

The safer option is a Rosary String. For 80 rosaries you get a string holding 60 rosaries. The string isn’t lost when you die, and you can only spend the rosaries on it after breaking it in your inventory.

So the safety costs you 20 rosaries per string. Before a risky stretch or a boss it can be worth it, because your savings stay safe even if you never make it back to your cocoon. The guides don’t agree on where to buy Rosary Strings or what they cost, so we’re leaving that out.

Where to farm rosaries

Farming means killing the same group of rosary-carrying enemies over and over. The guides agree on two spots early in the game.

Mosshome (the very start)

Right at the start you can farm in Mosshome. Pilgrims wander around the bench near The Marrow, and they drop rosaries. The exact yield varies between sources, so we’re not giving numbers.

Greymoor by Halfway Home

The more rewarding farm is in Greymoor. Here’s the route:

  1. Rest at the bench in Halfway Home.
  2. Head right into the next area.
  3. Kill the trio of pilgrims roaming there and pick up all the rosaries.
  4. Go back to the Halfway Home bench.
  5. Rest and repeat the loop.

According to the guides, one loop yields about 29 rosaries and takes under 25 seconds. The faster you take the pilgrims down, the shorter the loop.

Magnetite Brooch

The Magnetite Brooch is handy for farming. It’s a yellow tool that pulls loose rosaries towards you, so you don’t have to chase every bead. Like any tool, you can only equip it at a bench.

What Patch 1 changed

In Patch 1 (September 2025), Team Cherry increased rosary rewards from relics, psalm cylinders and courier deliveries. It also made Bellway and Bell Bench cheaper in the mid game, so the economy is a little more generous today than at launch. Other changes are summarised in our Silksong patches overview.

There’s no official rosary cheat in the game. Why, and what applies to mods, is covered in our cheats and mods article. More advice for your first hours is in the beginner’s guide.

FAQ

What happens to my rosaries when I die in Silksong?

They stay where you died, inside a cocoon. Go back, break the cocoon and collect them. Rosaries stored in a Rosary String are safe from death.

How does a Rosary String work?

For 80 rosaries you get a string holding 60. The string isn’t lost on death, and you can spend its rosaries only after breaking it in your inventory.

Where is a good early rosary farm?

At the very start, around the bench near The Marrow in Mosshome. A bit later in Greymoor: from the Halfway Home bench go right, kill the trio of pilgrims and return to the bench. One loop gives about 29 rosaries.

Why don’t enemies drop rosaries?

Only some enemies drop rosaries, mostly pilgrims. You find more in the world: strings, bead statues and chests.
