The PC version: Rust on Steam
Rust is developed and published by Facepunch Studios and has been fully released on Steam since 8 February 2018. The PC version is sold exclusively through Steam, no other store carries it. Steam offers a single “Rust” package for €39.99 and there are no pricier editions.
The game runs on Windows and macOS, Linux is not supported natively. The hardware you need and why Rust does not run on Steam Deck are covered in our system requirements guide.
Watch out for Steam Family Sharing. It has been disabled for Rust since 17 February 2021, so you can only play with a copy you bought yourself.
Rust Console Edition is a different game
Rust Console Edition is not a port of the PC version, it is a standalone game. It is developed and published by Double Eleven (the Microsoft Store lists the developer as “Double Eleven Ltd. / Facepunch Studios Limited”). Facepunch does not provide support for it, the console version is handled entirely by Double Eleven.
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, digital only, no disc.
- Native versions: in stores since 26 June 2025.
- Servers: Double Eleven runs its own servers, separate from PC.
- Progress: according to the Double Eleven FAQ, it does not transfer between Xbox and PlayStation.
- Wipes: monthly servers wipe on the last Thursday of the month, not the first as on PC.
The wipe difference matters most for players. Our wipe schedule guide explains when each version wipes. For problems on console, contact Double Eleven support, Facepunch rejects tickets about the console version.
Deluxe and Ultimate editions
Pricier editions only exist for Rust Console Edition. In the Czech PS Store Deluxe costs CZK 1,429 and Ultimate CZK 2,139, in the Czech Microsoft Store Deluxe is CZK 1,719 and Ultimate CZK 2,424. Check exactly what each one includes in the store before you buy. The PC version on Steam has no editions.
Paid DLC on PC
Steam lists five paid DLC for Rust (prices as of 20 October 2026):
- Warhammer 40,000 Pack for €12.79 (released 23 October 2025) – Hazmat suit, backpack, Chainsword, Krieg Shotgun and storage containers in the style of the Death Korps of Krieg.
- Instruments Pack for €9.99.
- Sunburn Pack for €9.99.
- Voice Props Pack for €12.99.
- Rust Soundtrack for €9.99.
You do not need any of them to play.
Is Rust on Game Pass or PS Plus?
No. As of 20 October 2026 the Microsoft Store listing for Rust Console Edition shows no Game Pass offer, and the PC version is only sold on Steam. In the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Plus Premium only gives you a two-hour Game Trial. To play the full game you have to buy it.
Rust Mobile and a comparison with ARC Raiders
Rust Mobile is yet another standalone game, made for phones by a partner officially approved by Facepunch. It is still in testing: Android only, Canada only and a limited number of players.
If you are torn between Rust and ARC Raiders by Embark Studios, price will not settle it: ARC Raiders also costs €39.99 on Steam. Our ARC Raiders guides cover that game. If you go with Rust, start with our beginner’s guide.
