EA Sports FC 27 won’t let you into Ultimate Team, matches lag or the game crashes on PC? This guide shows where to check EA’s server status first, what the “Ultimate Team is not possible” message means, the steps EA itself recommends against lag, which bugs have already been patched and how to deal with performance problems and crashes on PC. It covers PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, as of 20 October 2026.
First check whether the servers are down
Before you restart your router or reinstall the game, find out whether the problem is on EA’s side. If the servers are down, no setting at home will help. EA offers three places to check:
- EA server status on help.ea.com.
- The EA SPORTS FC Direct account on X, where EA posts outages and maintenance.
- The EA SPORTS FC Direct WhatsApp channel with the same announcements.
If nobody mentions an outage there and you are the only one affected, work through the steps below.
Connecting to Ultimate Team is not possible at the moment
This message shows up in FC 27 when you try to enter Football Ultimate Team (FUT). According to EA it can be caused by a server outage, so the first step is always the server status check above. If the servers are running, the cause is usually your own connection, and the EA steps against lag and disconnects are the way to go.
On PC via Steam, also make sure you have everything the game needs: an EA account linked to your Steam account, the EA app installed and a working internet connection. The game uses EA online activation and Denuvo Anti-tamper, so it will not start without a connection to EA.
Lag, high ping and disconnects: EA’s checklist
EA’s connection help lists the following steps. Go through them in this order:

- Restart the game. A new connection may put you on a different data centre.
- Restart your router and modem. Leave them off for at least 30 seconds.
- Limit downloads and streaming on other devices in your network.
- Connect your console or PC with a cable instead of Wi-Fi.
- If you have to stay on Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band and keep the router close. On 2.4 GHz try channels 1, 6 or 11.
- Update your router firmware.
- Turn off your VPN.
- Enable QoS (traffic prioritisation) on your router.
What Connection Quality shows
FC 27 rates your connection using three values: ping, packet loss and jitter (ping fluctuation). Together they make up your Connection Score. EA also publishes a Connection Quality Report that compares connection quality across internet providers. Details are in EA’s article on connection quality, and the full lag checklist is in the help article on connection issues.
What the updates have already fixed
Some problems were never on your side, and EA has fixed them in updates. If your game is up to date, these should no longer bother you:
| Update | Fix |
|---|---|
| Title Update 1.0.1 (23 Sep 2026) | High ping in The Grounds league matches |
| Title Update 1.0.3 (2 Oct 2026) | Improved matchmaking in The Grounds |
| Title Update 1.0.4 (7 Oct 2026) | “Service Unavailable” error after FUT matches |
| Fix on 9 Oct 2026 | Matchmaking range too wide in FUT Champions |
What the latest patch changed and what EA plans next is covered in our latest update guide.
PC: stuttering, input delay and crashes
If the game stutters or feels delayed on PC, EA recommends these steps:
- Lower the target frame rate, for example from 60 to 30 FPS.
- Lower graphics settings and resolution.
- Close background apps: browsers, overlays and recording software.
- Check that your RAM runs in dual channel (two modules). Single channel performs worse.
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Check the Windows power plan, your laptop’s performance mode and the settings in your GPU control panel.
As of 30 September 2026, EA lists two known PC issues: a performance drop with Cloth Quality set to Medium, and a Frame Rate Limit that is not applied correctly after switching monitors. EA is also investigating crashes and micro-stutter during cutscenes and set pieces. For late October, EA plans PC fixes for camera behaviour with mouse controls, the mouse in “Be a Goalie”, Xbox Elite Series controller vibration and flickering when a FUT match loads.
If your PC barely meets the minimum, check the system requirements. Graphics presets and other options are covered in our PC settings guide.
Anti-cheat and Secure Boot errors on PC
EA does not officially state which anti-cheat FC 27 uses or that it requires Secure Boot. If the game or the EA app shows you an EA Javelin anti-cheat error, though, EA has a general Javelin checklist:
- EA Javelin requires Windows 10 version 20H1 (10.0.19041) or newer.
- Games that use it install it themselves. The uninstaller
EAAntiCheat.Installer.exesits inC:Program FilesEAAC. - Error #41 affects Windows Insider builds without a renewed certificate.
- Error #701 is fixed with the command
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. - A message about incompatible software or a driver (#119) means you need to update or close that program, typically RGB or monitoring tools.
The full guide is in EA’s article on the EA anti-cheat. How Javelin works in Battlefield 6 is covered in our article on Javelin in BF6.
If the game reports a Secure Boot error, check it in msinfo32: Secure Boot State should read On and BIOS Mode UEFI. Secure Boot needs TPM 2.0 and a GPT disk. EA’s steps are in its article on Secure Boot.
Steam Deck: the game will not start
FC 27 does not run on Steam Deck. Valve lists the game as Unsupported because its anti-cheat is not supported on the Deck, and the same applies to SteamOS. This is not something you can fix with a setting.
