Yes, Rocket League is free. As of 20 October 2026 you download it on PC through the Epic Games Store and on consoles from the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store or the Nintendo eShop at no cost, and it also runs on Nintendo Switch 2. You cannot get the game on Steam as a new player. You only pay if you want extra cosmetics, using the in-game currency called Credits. Below is a platform overview, what the Steam situation means, how cross-platform play works and what Credits cost in the Czech Microsoft Store.
Where you can play Rocket League for free
The game is developed and published by Psyonix. It launched in July 2015, and according to Psyonix’s patch notes the current client runs on the Epic Games Store, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. The patch notes mention both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, as well as PlayStation 5.
| Platform | Where you get it | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | Epic Games Store | You need an Epic Games account, and the game runs on Windows only. |
| PlayStation | PlayStation Store, free PS4 version | You play it on PS5 through backward compatibility. |
| Xbox | Microsoft Store, free | Optimised for Xbox Series X|S, 4K, HDR, 60 and 120 fps. |
| Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 | Nintendo eShop, free | In the eShop since 14 November 2017; Psyonix’s patch notes also mention Switch 2. |
| Steam | The store page offers no purchase or download | The game still gets announcements and patch notes there. |
The PlayStation Store offers the PS4 version and notes that some features available on PS4 may be absent on PS5. On Xbox, the Microsoft Store lists Xbox Series X|S optimisation and cloud saves. Store links: Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop.
Rocket League and Steam
This is the question people ask most. As of 20 October 2026, the Rocket League page on Steam offers no purchase or download: no bundles and no free-to-play button. On PC you play through the Epic Games Store instead. Psyonix still posts season announcements and patch notes on Steam, so the page is alive, it just won’t give you the game.
Players who already own the game on Steam keep using it, for example on the Steam Deck, where Rocket League is rated Verified. Details and hardware specs are in our guide to the system requirements.
Crossplay and shared progression
The Microsoft Store lists cross-platform multiplayer and co-op for the game, so you can meet players from other systems in the same match. Psyonix does not describe crossplay in detail in the sources we use, so we won’t guess how matchmaking groups players.

Shared progression matters more. Once you link your accounts, Epic says your inventory, Competitive Rank (your rank in ranked matches) and Rocket Pass tier are shared on every connected platform. One exception is important: Credits cannot be shared across linked accounts on different platforms. Where to link and what exactly carries over is covered in our account linking guide.
Offline and local play
According to the PlayStation Store, online play is optional. Locally, 1 to 4 players can play on one console in splitscreen, and up to 8 players meet in an online match. The Microsoft Store lists local co-op and shared screen for Xbox too. The game also has offline modes, so you can play without a connection.
What you pay for in Rocket League
Only cosmetic items cost money. Epic states clearly that all items are cosmetic and do not impact gameplay. The currency is called Credits and comes in bundles. Prices in the Czech Microsoft Store as of 20 October 2026:
| Credits bundle | Price in the Czech Microsoft Store |
|---|---|
| 500 Credits | 108.49 CZK |
| 1,100 Credits | 216.99 CZK |
| 3,000 Credits | price not loaded |
| 6,500 Credits | price not loaded |
Epic offers the same four bundles. We did not pull PlayStation Store prices, so they are not listed here. Buy Credits on the platform you play on most, because they don’t move between platforms.
The other thing you can pay for is the Rocket Pass, a seasonal reward track with a free part and a paid part called Rocket Pass Premium. Psyonix does not state the Premium price in the sources we use, so we leave it out. You can earn plenty without paying: since Season 20, all Challenges (weekly and season-long) are open to everyone without Premium and unlock cosmetics for free. What the current season brings is in our Season 24 guide.
Age rating and languages
The game is rated PEGI 3. Voice-over is English only, while the on-screen text is available in English, German, French, Polish, Spanish, Italian and several other languages. If you are just starting out, read our beginner’s guide on modes and the road to ranked.
