Gacha games and kids: PEGI ratings, random purchases and spending limits

Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves are free to download, but they include in-game purchases, paid random items among them. The age rating depends on the store: on PlayStation, Honkai: Star Rail is PEGI 12 and the other three are PEGI 16, while in the Microsoft Store Zenless Zone Zero is PEGI 12. You can keep a child’s spending in check with a limit or purchase approval in the account of the platform they play on. Below you will find what the ratings mean and where to set up limits.

PEGI ratings by store

The same game can carry a different rating in different stores, which is why we always say where each rating comes from. All ratings below come from the stores’ Czech pages, as of 20 October 2026:

StoreGenshin ImpactHonkai: Star RailZenless Zone ZeroWuthering Waves
PlayStation (playstation.com, Czech site)PEGI 16PEGI 12PEGI 16PEGI 16
Microsoft Store (Czech store)PEGI 16–PEGI 12PEGI 16
Steam––PEGI 12 (German USK 16)–
App Store (Czech store)12+12+12+12+

A dash means we do not list a rating from that store. On the PlayStation pages all four games carry the descriptor “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)”. The Microsoft Store shows the same kind of notice for Genshin Impact, ZZZ and Wuthering Waves. You can check a rating directly in the store, for example on the Genshin Impact PlayStation page.

What paid random items mean

PEGI uses the label “Paid random items” for purchases where the player does not know in advance what they will get. Typical examples are loot boxes or card packs. They can be bought directly with real money or with in-game currency. All PEGI labels are explained on the PEGI website. According to PEGI, games with paid random items submitted for rating since June 2026 get PEGI 16 (social casino games PEGI 18).

In these games the random items are called banners (Wish, Warp, Signal Search or Convene). Your child spends in-game currency to pull and does not know what will drop. To give you an idea: according to the official banner rules, the base chance of getting the rarest 5-star character on the character banner in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail is 0.6% per pull. How banners and the guarantee after a set number of pulls (pity) work is explained in our guide to gacha and pity.

All four games are free, so a child can download them without paying. Where they run is covered in our overview of platforms and cross-save. On PlayStation 5 all four also require an online connection.

How to set a spending limit

Limits and approvals are set in the platform account, not in the game. The steps can change, so for each platform we link to the official guide.

PlayStation

As the family manager, you can set a monthly spending limit for your child. You can do it on the web, on the console or in the PlayStation Family app. The child’s purchases are then paid from the family manager’s wallet. Details are in PlayStation’s guide.

Xbox and Microsoft

You set purchase limits in the Xbox Family Settings app or on the family page of your Microsoft account. With “Ask a Parent”, you get an email every time your child wants to buy something. More in the Xbox Family Hub.

iPhone and iPad

Turn on “Ask to Buy” in Apple Family Sharing. The parent then approves or declines the child’s purchases and downloads. The steps are described by Apple Support.

Android and Google Play

In Google Play you can set purchase authentication (always, every 30 minutes or never) and parental approval for purchases, including in-app purchases. Approval only applies to payments through Google Play’s billing system. The guide is in the Google Play Help Center.

Where platform limits do not reach

A platform limit only applies to purchases made through that platform’s store. Some games also have their own web store. Wuthering Waves, for example, mentions purchases through a “Web Store” in its Xbox and PS5 FAQs, and PlayStation, Xbox, Apple or Google limits do not cover such payments.

How codes from the games’ official channels are redeemed is explained in our guide to redeem codes.
