How gacha banners and pity work in Genshin, HSR, ZZZ and Wuthering Waves

Gacha in Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves works on the same principle: you spend premium currency to pull from a banner and the result is random. Fixed rules limit that randomness, above all pity, a guarantee after a set number of pulls. This guide explains how banners, pity and the 50/50 work and which numbers each publisher states. Everything here reflects the official banner rules, which you can also check in the game, as of 20 October 2026.

What gacha, banners, pity and the 50/50 mean

Gacha is a system where you spend in-game currency on a random result. Genshin calls a pull a Wish, Honkai: Star Rail a Warp, ZZZ a Signal Search and Wuthering Waves a Convene. The idea is the same in all four, only the names and numbers change.

  • Banner: the specific pool you pull from. The standard banner is always available, event banners run for a limited time and feature a rate-up (featured) character or weapon.
  • Pity: the guarantee that if the rarest reward does not drop for a long time, it drops by a set pull at the latest.
  • 50/50: the first top-rarity character on an event banner has a 50% chance of being the featured one. If it is not, the next one is guaranteed to be.

Games list two kinds of numbers. The base probability is the chance per pull without any guarantee. The consolidated probability also counts the guarantee, which is why it is higher.

The four games compared

The table covers the rarest rewards (5-star, S-Rank in ZZZ) as listed in each Details window. Wuthering Waves does not publish its numbers on the web, Kuro Games points players to the in-game Convene page.

Wuthering Wavesnot published on the web, see in-game Convene; no 50/50Featured Resonator Convene: numbers in game only, at least a 4-star every 10 pullsFeatured Weapon Convene: the 5-star weapon is always the featured one

The second-highest rarity has its own guarantee: at least a 4-star within 10 pulls in Genshin and HSR, at least an A-Rank within 10 searches on the ZZZ standard channel and at least a 4-star every 10 pulls in Wuthering Waves. The consolidated 4-star chance on the character event banner is 13% in both Genshin and HSR, the A-Rank chance on the ZZZ standard channel is 14.4%.

Genshin Impact: Wishes

On the Character Event Wish the base chance of a 5-star character is 0.6% and the consolidated chance 1.6%, and you get one within 90 pulls at the latest. The first 5-star has a 50% chance of being the featured character, otherwise the next one is. On top of that, Capturing Radiance can trigger and give you the featured character without the guarantee. Our Genshin pity guide covers it in detail.

The Epitome Invocation weapon banner gives a 5-star weapon within 80 pulls, and the first one has a 75% chance of being one of the two featured weapons.

Honkai: Star Rail: Warps

The numbers are similar. The Character Event Warp gives a 5-star character within 90 warps with a 50% chance of the featured one, the Light Cone Event Warp a 5-star Light Cone within 80 warps with a 75% chance. The Star Rail pity guide breaks it down, including the beginner banner.

Zenless Zone Zero: Signal Search

The Star-Studded Cast standard channel has a base S-Rank chance of 0.6% (Agent 0.3%, W-Engine 0.3%), 1.6% consolidated and at least one S-Rank within 90 searches. New players get their first 5 Ten-Searches for 8 Master Tapes each, and their first S-Rank is guaranteed to be an Agent within 50 searches.

On the limited channels (Exclusive Channel and W-Engine Channel) the numbers are listed in the in-game Details. There is also S-Rank Signal Customization: you pick 6 S-Rank Agents or W-Engines, and if an S-Rank is not the featured one, it is one of your six.

Wuthering Waves: Convene

The Featured Resonator Convene uses Radiant Tide, the Featured Weapon Convene uses Forging Tide. Both give at least a 4-star every 10 pulls. On the weapon banner the 5-star weapon is always the featured one, with no 50/50, and the standard banners have no 50/50 like the event ones. Kuro Games does not publish exact rates or the pity threshold on its website and refers players to the in-game Convene page, as the 3.7 Convene notice also does. Convene unlocks at Union Level 5, or earlier after the First Resonance combat trial or through the Main Quest Fast Track event.

Where to find the rules in game

  • Genshin Impact: in the Wish screen, the Details button at the bottom left.
  • Honkai: Star Rail: on the Warp screen.
  • Zenless Zone Zero: on the Signal Search page, the Details button at the bottom left.
  • Wuthering Waves: on the in-game Convene page.

With each new banner the featured characters and weapons change, the principle stays. Publishers announce current banners in official news, for example Genshin 7.1 or HSR 4.6 Warp.

Shared pity counters

Pity is not tracked per banner but per banner type:

  • In Genshin, Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2 share a counter, other Wish types have their own.
  • In HSR, all Character Event Warps share one counter and all Light Cone Event Warps another.
  • In ZZZ, all Exclusive Channels share one counter and all W-Engine Channels another.
  • In Wuthering Waves, all Featured Resonator Convenes share a counter (weapon banners separately), and it carries over until you get a 5-star.

Gacha and age ratings

On playstation.com all four games carry the PEGI note for in-game purchases including random items. PEGI uses it for purchases where you do not know in advance what you will get, paid with real money or in-game currency. What parents can do about it is covered in parents and spending.

FAQ

What does pity mean in gacha games?

A guarantee that you get the rarest reward by a set pull at the latest. In Genshin, HSR and on the ZZZ standard channel it is within 90 pulls for characters, on the Genshin and HSR weapon banners within 80.

What is the 50/50?

A 50% chance that the first 5-star character on an event banner is the featured one. If it is not, the next 5-star is guaranteed to be. That is how the Details pages in Genshin and HSR describe it.

Does pity carry over to the next banner?

The counter is shared within a banner type, in Genshin for example between Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2. It does not carry over between types such as characters and weapons. In Wuthering Waves, according to Kuro Games, it carries over until you get a 5-star.

Where can I see the rates in Wuthering Waves?

Only in game on the Convene page. Kuro Games does not publish the rates or the pity threshold on its website.

What is the chance of a 5-star character in Genshin?

On the Character Event Wish the base chance is 0.6% and the consolidated chance with the guarantee 1.6%. A 5-star character drops within 90 pulls at the latest.
