Baldur’s Gate 3 has no official command console and no cheat codes. Larian doesn’t document anything of the kind, and the official way to change the game is mods. Since Patch 7 you get them right in the game through the built-in Mod Manager on PC, PS5, Xbox and Mac. Here’s how the Mod Manager works, what runs on consoles, how mods behave in co-op and where to find a cheat mod. Checked as of 20 October 2026.
There is no command console in BG3
If you’re looking for a console where you type a command and get gold or an item, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have one. Neither Larian’s announcements nor the official game site mention a console or cheat codes. Sites promising “BG3 console commands” describe something the game officially doesn’t have.
Cheats in BG3 therefore mean mods. Some mods add exactly what you’d expect from cheats, others change rules, visuals or add content. It all starts in the Mod Manager.
Mod Manager: mods inside the game
Patch 7 (on PC from 5 September 2024) added a built-in Mod Manager along with an official creator tool, the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit. Since then you browse and install mods directly in the game, without downloading files from the web. Patch 7 and mods reached consoles and Mac on 1 October 2024.

Mods are hosted on mod.io. According to Larian, 10,000 mods had been uploaded to mod.io by the end of 2025, with over 350 million downloads.
When a new version of a mod comes out, update it in the Mod Manager under the Installed tab with the Update button. Larian covers the official details in its mod support FAQ.
Mods on PS5, Xbox and Mac
Consoles and Mac follow stricter rules than PC:
- Only mods made in the official Toolkit that pass Larian’s internal testing are available.
- Third-party mods, meaning anything outside the Toolkit, don’t work on consoles.
- You can have at most 100 mods installed on console.
- Mods that add new playable races can’t be approved for consoles.
So on PS5 or Xbox you pick only from what the Mod Manager offers. PC gives you more options.
Toolkit: if you want to make mods
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is the official editor for mod creators. It’s free on Steam, but only for PCs running 64-bit Windows. It needs 160 GB of space, a mod.io account and a Larian account, and Larian recommends 32 GB of RAM. Patch 8 extended the Toolkit with partial level editing.
You don’t need the Toolkit just to play. It’s a tool for people who want to build mods, and only mods made with it can reach consoles. Whether your PC can run the game at all is covered in our article on system requirements.
Mods in co-op and crossplay
You can play with mods together with friends, with one rule: everyone needs the same mods in the same version. When you join a game, the Mod Verification window opens and offers to install or update the mods you’re missing.
Mods also work in crossplay between PC and consoles. A PC host can filter mods by the “Available on Console & Mac” tag to pick only the ones console and Mac players can install as well. How to turn crossplay on step by step is in our BG3 multiplayer guide.
Third-party mods on PC
On PC you can still use mods that weren’t made in the Toolkit. In its patch notes Larian mentions the Script Extender by Norbyte, which many such mods rely on. We don’t include installation instructions here, as these are unofficial tools outside the Mod Manager.
Expect some mods to break temporarily after a game update. If the game crashes or behaves oddly after a patch, uninstall your mods and try it without them. According to Larian, Patch 8 from 15 April 2025 is the last major patch; since then only hotfixes have been released. What it brought is covered in our Patch 8 article.
The Cheater’s Menu mod
If you want classic cheats, the closest thing to a console is the Cheater’s Menu mod. What it does, which platforms it runs on and how to install it is in our article on Cheater’s Menu.
