Battlefield 6 on PC requires Secure Boot, and the game will not start without it. This guide shows you how to check in under a minute whether it is on, what needs to be in place first (TPM 2.0, a GPT disk and a BIOS in UEFI mode) and how to switch Secure Boot on. The steps follow EA’s official help article, apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11 and were checked on 19 October 2026.
Why Battlefield 6 needs Secure Boot
Secure Boot is a Windows 10 and 11 security feature that makes sure your PC only loads safe software during startup. Battlefield 6 is protected by EA Javelin anticheat, which uses Secure Boot to detect and remove cheaters. That is why EA lists it directly in the Steam requirements, next to the line “TPM 2.0 Enabled, UEFI Secure Boot Enabled, HVCI Capable, VBS Capable”. Javelin also needs Windows 10 version 20H1 (10.0.19041) or newer. The full spec sheet is in our article on system requirements.

On 28 August 2026, EA tightened TPM 2.0 enforcement again. It had relaxed it temporarily, but cheaters abused that during Season 3.
The full requirements are listed on the Steam store page.
1. Check whether Secure Boot is on
- Press Win + R, type
msinfo32and confirm. - In the System Information window, stay on System Summary.
- Find two values: BIOS Mode should be
UEFIand Secure Boot State should beOn.
What to do next depends on the result:
- Secure Boot is on: you are done and the problem lies elsewhere.
- Secure Boot is off and BIOS Mode is UEFI: skip straight to step 5.
- BIOS Mode is Legacy: work through steps 2 to 4, especially the disk check.
- Secure Boot State is Unsupported: check your motherboard manual or spec sheet to see whether it supports Secure Boot at all.
2. Verify TPM 2.0
Secure Boot needs TPM 2.0 turned on. Press Win + R, type tpm.msc and confirm. In the TPM management window, look at the status. If TPM is ready to use, move on. If it is not, enable it following the instructions from your PC or motherboard manufacturer, because the process differs between brands.
3. Find out whether your system disk is GPT or MBR
- Press Win + X and choose Disk Management.
- Find your system disk (C:), right-click its left-hand column and select Properties.
- Open the Volumes tab.
- Look at Partition style. GUID Partition Table (GPT) means you are fine. MBR means the disk has to be converted.
Converting MBR to GPT
Only do this if Partition style shows MBR. Press Win + R, type powershell and open it as administrator with Ctrl + Shift + Enter. The window should show that it is running as administrator. Then run the validation:
mbr2gpt /validate /disk:0 /allowfullOS
If validation passes, run the conversion in the same window:
mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowfullOS
Careful:
disk:0must match the number of your system disk shown in the disk properties on the Volumes tab. If yours is different, change it in both commands.
4. Switch the BIOS to UEFI mode
If msinfo32 showed Legacy, your firmware has to be set to boot in UEFI mode. This is usually done in the BIOS settings, but every manufacturer puts it somewhere else, so follow your PC or motherboard maker’s support resources. Only once the disk is GPT and the BIOS is in UEFI mode can you turn Secure Boot on.
5. Enable Secure Boot
- Open Start and search for “Change advanced startup options”.
- Next to Advanced startup, click Restart now.
- After the restart, select Advanced options.
- Choose UEFI Firmware Settings. Your PC restarts into the BIOS.
- Find the Secure Boot option (often on the Boot tab) and set it to Enabled. Many BIOS menus have a search function that helps.
- Save the changes and restart. Then launch the game again or recheck the status in
msinfo32.
BIOS menus differ between manufacturers, so the tab and option names on your machine may look different.
Things to watch out for
EA points out that this is a general guide that may not match your PC exactly. Incorrect BIOS settings can stop your computer from starting up. If you are unsure, contact your manufacturer or a professional. EA does not take responsibility for changes to your BIOS settings.
In its help article EA links to guides from Acer, ASUS, ASRock, Corsair, Dell, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo and MSI. The full official walkthrough is in EA Help on Secure Boot.

FAQ
Press Win + R, type msinfo32 and look at Secure Boot State under System Summary. The value On means it is enabled.
EA Javelin anticheat uses it to detect and remove cheaters. On PC, Secure Boot is therefore mandatory and the game will not start without it.
Check your motherboard manual or spec sheet to see whether it supports Secure Boot. If it does not, Battlefield 6 will not run on that PC.
Only if Disk Management shows MBR as the partition style of your system disk. Secure Boot needs GPT. When you convert with mbr2gpt, make sure the disk number in the command matches your system disk.
EA warns that incorrect BIOS settings can stop your computer from starting up. If you are unsure, follow your manufacturer’s guide or ask a professional.
