The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign has 11 missions, and according to PCGamesN and GamesRadar+ it takes roughly 4 to 6 hours. You can play it solo or with friends in co-op, but not offline: even the campaign needs a constant internet connection. How long is the campaign
Activision only gives the number of missions: 11. The playtime comes from reviewers. PCGamesN finished the campaign in 4 to 5 hours, while GamesRadar+ puts a standard run at 5 to 6 hours. If you collect more along the way, GamesRadar+ says you’ll reach around 7 hours, and completing everything takes 10 hours or more. Your own time depends on difficulty and on whether you play alone or in a group.
What the story is about
It’s 2035. David Mason leads an elite JSOC team into the Mediterranean city of Avalon. Raul Menendez returns, and the tech company The Guild is pulling strings in the background. The story follows on from Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6, so players who know those games will meet familiar faces. We’ll leave it there to keep the campaign spoiler-free.
Co-op: solo or with friends
The campaign is built as a cooperative experience (Co-Op Campaign), but Activision’s Steam page also pitches it for a single player with the line “Squad up or go solo”. Difficulty changes with the number of players in your group, so the challenge is tuned differently whether you go solo or play in a group.
On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S you can also play two players on one screen (split-screen), as Activision Support confirms. On PS4 and Xbox One there’s no split-screen.
The campaign requires a constant internet connection even when you play completely alone, because the game streams textures as you go. Without a connection it won’t start. If you can’t reach the servers, see our guide for when the game fails.
Endgame in Avalon
Finishing the 11 missions unlocks Endgame, a PvE mode in Avalon for 1 to 32 players in squads of up to four. Since 21 November 2025, though, you don’t need to finish the campaign: Endgame is available to all Black Ops 7 players right away.
Endgame has its own loadout made up of a primary weapon, a melee weapon, a Field Acquisition and Field Equipment. On top of that you choose one Major and one Minor ability:
- Major: Ballistic Shell, Active Camo, Hand Cannon, Crash Cart, Vision Pulse, War Machine, Shadow Break, Drone Pod
- Minor: Grappling Hook, Portal Grenade, Kinetic Jump, Flicker, Supply Link, Black Hat
Your strength is shown by your Combat Rating, which goes up to 60. You develop your character through Skill Tracks: Gunner, Surgeon, Daredevil, Tactician, Berserker and Bulldozer. Watch out for death: if you go down, you lose your progress in that match. The only way to keep it is a successful exfil, extracting from the map.
Endgame was free for everyone from Season 03 until the end of Season 05. Activision hasn’t announced free access for Season 06, so right now you play it with Black Ops 7 or through Game Pass. Where to buy the game and what Game Pass includes is covered in our guide to editions and prices.
What the campaign gives you
The campaign and Endgame both count towards the game’s shared progression. They award XP for your account level, weapon levels, camos and Battle Pass progress. The campaign also has its own camo track with 16 camos. Playing it levels you up for multiplayer, Zombies and Warzone too.
