Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is not free. It’s part of the paid game, and only Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play. What you get for the price is Treyarch’s round-based Zombies with six large maps, from the launch map Ashes of the Damned to Rex Infernus, plus smaller Survival maps, Directed Mode and Dead Ops Arcade 4. Here’s an overview of every map and mode based on Activision’s official announcements, valid for PC, PlayStation and Xbox as of 19 October 2026.
Is Black Ops 7 Zombies free?
No. Zombies is Treyarch’s round-based mode and comes with the paid game, just like the campaign and multiplayer. Warzone is the free part, and it shares seasons, the Battle Pass and COD Points with Black Ops 7. What Warzone offers without paying is covered in Is Warzone free.
You get access to Zombies by buying the game (79.99 EUR on Steam as of 19 October 2026) or through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, which include the full game. The editions and what’s in them are covered in our guide to editions and prices.
Ashes of the Damned: the launch map
Ashes of the Damned arrived with the game on 14 November 2025. According to Activision’s Steam page, it’s the biggest round-based map in Black Ops history. It’s set in the Dark Aether, you get around in a vehicle called Ol’ Tessie, and your guide is T.E.D.D.
Round-based maps by season
After launch, Treyarch added more large round-based maps through the seasons. The Black Ops 7 Zombies story wrapped up with Rex Infernus in Season 05.

Survival maps
Alongside the big round-based maps, Treyarch adds Survival maps. These are smaller slices where you play Zombies in a tighter space. The oldest is Vandorn Farm, which PCGamesN lists at launch; the others arrived in seasons according to Activision’s official announcements.

Directed Mode, Dead Ops Arcade 4 and Season 06
Directed Mode is a guided version of a map’s main quest. Activision has added it step by step: for Ashes of the Damned, Astra Malorum and, in Season 06, Rex Infernus.
Dead Ops Arcade 4 is an arcade co-op mode for up to four players. It’s played from the classic top-down view, and now also in first person.
The current Season 06, The Haunting, has been running since 17 September 2026 (official overview). For Zombies it brought the Survival map Tenshu, Directed Mode for Rex Infernus, a big update to the Rogue Run mode and a Super Easter Egg. Everything else in the season is covered in our Season 06 guide. Activision hasn’t announced when the season ends.
Perk-a-Cola, Augments and GobbleGums
Zombies has its own upgrades, separate from multiplayer perks. Perks here are Perk-a-Colas, upgrades are called Augments, and on top of that you have GobbleGums. All GobbleGums are unlocked from the start; the ones you earn from levels are just bonus extras. The Vault Edition includes an Ultra GobbleGum Pack with eight GobbleGums.
XP from Zombies goes into the same shared level as the campaign, multiplayer and Warzone. How progression works is explained in our beginner’s guide.
Zombies maps in multiplayer
In Season 06, Zombies also made it into multiplayer. The limited-time mode T.E.D.D. Trials is played on three zombie maps: Roadkill, Inferno and Lost. More PvE co-op is available in the Avalon Endgame that follows the campaign.
