Logitech G Play Connect in Warsaw is exactly the kind of A-Tier stop where a single good day can move a team up the world ranking. There is a $100,000 prize pool on the table and, more importantly, points that feed into the race for a spot at the PGL Major. The group stage is done, the bracket is set, and the tournament now moves into its loudest phase.
How the format works
Both groups held six teams and everyone played everyone in a single-map round robin. The group winner skipped straight to the semifinals, the next two teams dropped into the quarterfinals. That is how the knockout stage was assembled – and it left some very big names on the outside.
B8 Esports set the tone
B8 Esports came through the group stage without dropping a single match. Their toughest test was Luminosity Gaming, who pushed them all the way to a 13:11 finish; everything else the Ukrainian squad handled more comfortably. As group winners they went straight to the semifinals, and today at 15:00 they get Luminosity Gaming again – this time with a place in the final on the line.
The second semifinal is a first-time-out for Inner Circle, who topped Group B and therefore reached the last four without playing a play-off match at all. Their opponent is the French side 3DMAX, who lost 9:13 in the group stage but fought their way through the bracket anyway.
Big names that did not make it
The knockout stage runs without several of the tournament’s most recognizable teams. Team Liquid, GamerLegion and Ninjas in Pyjamas all finished their runs in the groups, which tells you how little slack there was in a field stacked with Major-level rosters.
Metizport got nothing for free
For Czech sniper David “forsyy” Bílý this was the event he had been waiting on for a full year – his first A-Tier stop since joining the Nordic organization Metizport, his first international home. The team earned its place through an online qualifier and then drew Group A, which turned out to be brutal.
Metizport opened against top seed B8 Esports and lost 8:16. Artem “kensizor” Kapran was the main problem on the other side with a 25–8 scoreline, and forsyy also had to trade AWP shots with sixteen-year-old prodigy Danylo “s1zzi” Vinnyk. Three more defeats followed – against Luminosity Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas and M80 – and the play-off door slammed shut.
The last match at least ended on a high note. Metizport beat GamerLegion 13:5 and took the win purely on the CT side. GamerLegion played in a weakened lineup with a stand-in, though, so the result says more about morale than about the actual balance of power.
The second Czech story ended before the server booted
Martin “Dytor” Handl qualified for Warsaw with INFINITE, but he fell victim to roster changes in the organization and will not play the event. Group B, where INFINITE competed alongside Inner Circle, Team Liquid, 3DMAX, EYEBALLERS and BBL Esports, therefore ran without any Czech representation.
What is left to play for
The final phase has moved out of the studio and into Warsaw’s EXPO XXI exhibition center, where the event runs as part of Logitech G Play under the name “The House of G”. The final is scheduled for tomorrow at 18:00.
