Pokémon Legends: Z-A costs €59.99 for the Nintendo Switch version and €69.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on the German Nintendo eShop. The upgrade pack from the Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition is €9.99, and the Mega Dimension story DLC is €29.99. These prices were checked on 20 October 2026, when none of the items was discounted. Below you will find how the versions differ, what Mega Dimension adds and what the bundle releasing on 29 October 2026 includes.
How much Pokémon Legends: Z-A costs
The game launched on 16 October 2025 for Nintendo Switch and, at the same time, as Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for Switch 2. It is an action RPG set in Lumiose City, which is being redeveloped for both people and Pokémon. You start by picking Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile as your partner, and for the first time in the main series battles play out in real time. Mega Evolution, wild zones, alpha Pokémon and Rogue Mega Evolution are all part of the mix.
| Item | Nintendo eShop DE, 20 October 2026 | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Switch) | €59.99 | you play on the original Switch |
| Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | €69.99 | you are buying for the first time and own a Switch 2 |
| Upgrade pack Switch → Switch 2 Edition | €9.99 | you own the Switch version and moved to Switch 2 |
| Mega Dimension DLC | €29.99 | you want more story |
If you already own the Switch version, you do not buy the game again, you only add the upgrade pack. Switch version plus upgrade comes to €69.98 in total, practically the same as buying the Switch 2 Edition outright.
What the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds
Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as improved performance with a higher frame rate and resolution. It does not publish an exact resolution or frame rate. The content is the same, the difference is how the game runs on Switch 2.
The Switch 2 Edition plays only on Switch 2. If you insert a Switch 2 Edition card into an original Switch, it starts the Switch version without the Switch 2 Edition features. For other Pokémon games with a dedicated version or update on the new console, see our overview of Pokémon games on Switch 2. The official product page is on Nintendo’s website.
Mega Dimension DLC: what is in it and when you can play it
Mega Dimension came out on 10 December 2025. It is an additional story that unlocks only after you finish the main story of Z-A. You can buy it whenever you like, but you start playing it once the main game is done.
The story revolves around spatial distortions appearing across Lumiose City, and Hoopa helps you into hyperspace. The DLC adds these Mega Evolutions:
- Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y – each form needs a different Mega Stone.
- Mega Chimecho, Mega Baxcalibur and Mega Zeraora.
- Mega Lucario Z and Mega Garchomp Z.
The official content overview is on the DLC page.
Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle from 29 October 2026
On Thursday 29 October 2026, Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension releases. Game and DLC sit on a single game card, and the content is identical to buying the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension separately. We are not listing a bundle price as of 20 October 2026 because we found no official figure.
The bundle comes with a serial code for 100 Ultra Balls. Here is how it works:
- You can redeem it only once and it has no expiry date.
- You need an internet connection and a Nintendo Account. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required.
- You enter it through Mystery Gift, which unlocks after roughly an hour of play.
If you already own the Switch 2 Edition, skip the bundle and buy only Mega Dimension. The bundle card also runs on an original Switch, but only with the Switch version content. We covered the announcement in our news piece on the bundle cartridge.
Languages
Both the Switch version and the Switch 2 Edition support Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean and Chinese.
Multiplayer and Nintendo Switch Online
One player per console in single system mode. Local wireless and online play support two to four players. Player battles happen in the Z-A Battle Club:
- Link Battles – up to 4 players online or locally, with a 3 minute limit per battle.
- Ranked Battles – you climb from Rank Z to Rank A.
Online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Prices and plans are in our guide to Nintendo Switch Online.
Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Champions
The link between Z-A and Pokémon HOME was announced on 27 February 2026 and is live as of 20 October 2026. You can send Pokémon from Z-A to HOME and bring selected Pokémon from older games into Lumiose City. The transfer has clear limits, so read them before you move anything:
- You cannot send Pokémon from Z-A to older games.
- A Pokémon from an older game that you send to Z-A can never go back to older games.
- The connection works only through the Switch version of HOME, not the mobile app.
Your first transfer from Z-A to HOME earns you alpha Chikorita, alpha Tepig and alpha Totodile as a Mystery Gift in mobile HOME. Switch and mobile HOME must use the same Nintendo Account. The full step by step process is in our HOME transfer guide.
Selected Pokémon from Z-A can also travel through HOME to Pokémon Champions. As part of a promotion, for Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja and Eternal Flower Floette from Z-A you receive Chesnaughtite, Delphoxite, Greninjite and Floettite in Champions. What Champions is and how recruitment works is explained in our Champions guide.
