Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for October, and the three picks pull in completely different directions: a Formula 1 simulation, a brutally unforgiving extraction shooter and a chaotic voxel co-op shooter against oversized monsters. F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 are available to claim from Tuesday, October 6 until Monday, November 2. All three are offered across every subscription tier, including the basic Essential plan, so you don’t need Extra or Premium to add them to your library. If you’re not subscribed yet, the service details live on the official PlayStation Plus page.
F1 25 | PS5
F1 25 is the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. If you prefer playing solo, you get Career and My Team 2.0, where you run your own Formula 1 outfit as its owner and write your racing story from both the pit wall and the cockpit. Online you race against other players, and F1 World adds a new multiplayer mode where you and your friends form a squad and take on AI drivers together.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 | PS5
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a new era of the addictively harsh extraction shooter. You head into corrupted backwaters lost to history, alone or with friends, and between you and your Bounty stand twisted monsters plus other ruthless Hunters. The loop is simple to describe and hard to survive: beat rival Hunters to the bosses, send them to hell, claim the bounty and fight your way to extraction. You can go in solo or bring up to two teammates.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 | PS5, PS4
The square Earth is under attack by giant enemies and teammates scattered around the world are waiting to be rescued. You pick 4 fighters from the ones you’ve collected, build a squad that fits your play style, choose your gear and deploy. Alongside soldiers from the mainline EDF series there are troops from the spin-offs, and enemies that wrecked the planet in earlier entries have crossed over too, including redesigned voxel versions of old favorites plus brand new foes. There’s four player online co-op and two player local split screen.
It’s also the user favorite of the trio at 4.68 stars, and the only one of the three that runs on PS4. That matters more than usual right now, because Sony has already announced that PS Plus will start scaling back PS4 support from January 2026 – even though 21 of the 33 games offered through PS Plus Essential in 2026 were playable on the older console. If you’re still gaming on that hardware, we took a separate look at the PS4 today.
Japan gets Hello Neighbor instead of Hunt
The lineup isn’t identical everywhere. In Japan, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is replaced by Hello Neighbor, a stealth horror game about breaking into the house of a suspicious neighbor. You move through the building, solve environmental puzzles and try to avoid the neighbor himself, whose AI adapts to your actions. Hello Neighbor is also available as part of the PS Plus Extra Game Catalog. Sony points out that the Monthly Games selection can differ by region, so check PlayStation Store on release day to see exactly what applies to your account.
Last chance for the September games
You had until Monday, October 5 to add Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes to your library. After that date they drop out of the Monthly Games offer, which is why it’s worth claiming games even when you don’t plan to play them right away.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on Sony Pictures Core on October 6, and limited-edition avatars tied to the movie launch the same day, exclusively on Sony Pictures Core and only for a limited time. PlayStation Plus members can claim the avatars in-app at no extra cost; everyone else has to get Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Sony Pictures Core to receive them. Selected subscribers have until October 20, 2026 to grab them, and the avatar voucher code expires on October 6, 2027.
PlayStation Plus Exclusive HorrorFest Packs
For spooky season Sony is running a series of PS Plus HorrorFest events that hand members horror-themed in-game item bundles across a range of PS5 and PS4 titles. You need to own the base game to access the contents of each pack.
- Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle – available October 1
