Short answer: Skyrim has no cheats on PS5, PS4, Xbox or Switch. The command console that PC players use to “cheat” only exists on PC. On consoles, what you get instead is Creations, the official mods and paid content available right inside the game. Here’s what you can actually do, how much mod storage you have after update 1.7.99 and what mods do to your trophies and achievements. Current as of 19 October 2026.
Why there are no cheats on consoles
On PC you press the key below Esc, open the console and type commands like tgm or player.additem. The PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions simply don’t have that console. It’s not a case of not knowing the right button combination: Skyrim on consoles has no button cheats and no secret codes.
That applies to the Special Edition and the Anniversary Edition on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2 alike. If you want the command console, you have to play on PC. The full list is in our guide to console commands.
What you can use instead: Creations
The Special Edition brought mods to console players for the first time back in 2016. Today, mods and paid content inside the game are called Creations. You’ll find them in the in-game Creations menu, and you can also browse them on the Bethesda Creations website. The older Creation Club ended on 5 December 2023 and was replaced by the Verified Creators programme, where verified authors release paid content.

Creations are the only official way to change the game on consoles. They aren’t on-demand cheats like the PC commands, though: you download finished mods that someone else made, and your console sets aside a limited amount of space for them.
How much mod storage you get after update 1.7.99
Update 1.7.99 from 20 August 2026 (with a hotfix on 27 August) was a big change for consoles. According to Bethesda’s announcement:
- PS5 and Xbox: mod storage raised to 15 GB.
- PS4: roughly 16 GB.
- The download size may not match how much space a mod actually takes up.
On PlayStation, 1.7.99 also added support for archives and more file types (.nif,.dds,.bink,.wav,.fuz). That’s a major step: back in 2016, PS4 mods weren’t allowed to include their own assets at all. You can read the full update 1.7.99 notes on Steam.
The follow-up hotfix on 27 August then fixed two annoying crashes: one on PlayStation when typing on the keyboard in the main menu, and one on Xbox when opening the map repeatedly.
Mods, trophies and achievements
Check this before you install anything. Mods in the Special Edition disable achievements and trophies, on PC and on consoles. Official Creation Club content doesn’t disable them.
Update 1.7.99 added one more option. Creations from Verified Creators can carry an “Achievement-Friendly” (Xbox) or “Trophy-Friendly” (PlayStation) label. Those Creations won’t disable achievements, but you need to start a new game to use them. This only applies to Creations with that label, not to Creations in general.
Skyrim on Switch and Switch 2
On Switch you can get the Anniversary Upgrade with all the Creations from the Anniversary Edition, but not the Creation Club itself. Neither Switch nor Switch 2 has a command console. What the newer Switch 2 version includes is covered in our Switch 2 guide.
Which edition to buy on console
The Anniversary Edition is available digitally on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2, and physically on Xbox One and PS4. Buying the Anniversary Edition on the PlayStation Store gets you the digital version for both PS4 and PS5. The Special Edition is also part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue.
