Skyrim Anniversary Edition launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on 9 December 2025, with no prior announcement. It gives you the base game, all three add-ons and the Creation Club content from Anniversary Edition. Here’s exactly what’s included, what it improves over the original Switch, which languages it has and how mods and cheats work. Everything is verified as of 19 October 2026.
What Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 includes
The Switch 2 version is Anniversary Edition, the most complete release of Skyrim. According to the game’s page on the Nintendo eShop, it includes:
- the base game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,
- Dawnguard with vampires and vampire hunters,
- Hearthfire with house building and adopting children,
- Dragonborn with the island of Solstheim,
- Creation Club content, which is what separates Special from Anniversary Edition.
In general, Anniversary Edition means Special Edition with its three add-ons plus the Creation Club content released up to 11 November 2021. Anniversary Edition itself added 26 new Creations, including Ghosts of the Tribunal and The Cause. How the editions differ is covered in our edition comparison.
Which order to play the add-ons in and when they unlock is explained in Skyrim DLC order. It works the same on Switch 2 as on every other platform.
What’s better than on the original Switch
Skyrim first came to the original Nintendo Switch on 17 November 2017. According to Nintendo and Bethesda’s announcement, the Switch 2 version brings three main upgrades:

- better resolution and visuals,
- faster loading,
- optimised performance.
Nintendo describes the upgrade as taking full advantage of the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware. For comparison, owners of Special or Anniversary Edition on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 can download a free optimisation update with better visuals and faster loading.
Which platforms have Anniversary Edition
Switch 2 isn’t your only option. Anniversary Edition is available digitally on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Amazon Luna. Physical copies came out on Xbox One and PS4. If you play on PC, check the current system requirements, including Steam Deck.
If you’re choosing between Switch 2 and another handheld option, Steam Deck is worth a mention. Skyrim Special Edition is rated Verified there, so controls, text readability and performance are fine. On the Deck you play the Steam version, the same Special or Anniversary Edition as on a desktop PC.
Languages
According to the Nintendo eShop, the Switch 2 version offers Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian and Chinese. If you’d rather play in one of these languages than in English, the Switch 2 version has you covered.
Mods and Creations on Switch
On Switch you get the Anniversary Upgrade with all its Creations, but not the Creation Club itself. Everything that belongs to Anniversary Edition is there.
How to install mods on PC with Vortex or Mod Organizer 2, and what SKSE is for, is covered in our Skyrim mods guide.
Cheats and the command console
The command console used to enter cheats on PC doesn’t exist on Switch 2. The same goes for every console: you can’t open it on Switch, Xbox or PlayStation, and Skyrim has no cheat codes for them. What does and doesn’t work on consoles is explained in Skyrim console cheats.
