UNiTY have put their Czech core back together with the signing of Martin „Dytor“ Handl, and after a run of online tournaments they now want to prove themselves on LAN as well. Their next destination is Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal – the SAW Esports Arena near Porto, a venue that hosts VRS events from a whole range of organizers.
A packed calendar before the November cutoff
The competitive schedule is stacked in the final weeks before the November cutoff that decides who qualifies for the PGL Major. The first event of the brand-new FOX Legacy LAN series is aimed more at teams from the second tier, and UNiTY are among them: based on the September ranking, they go in as the fourth seed. If you want to keep track of the whole race, we cover it in our Counter-Strike 2 news section, and we also wrote about how SINNERS in Belgrade ended their Major hopes.
Who stands in their way
Three teams sit above UNiTY in the seeding – INFINITE, Wildcard and Esport Academy Copenhagen. The biggest favorite, though, is the home side SAW. Their new lineup was assembled only recently, yet it has already won LeonBet Masters and climbed into the TOP 50 of the live VRS. SAW still can’t be seeded, which shuffles the bracket.
- INFINITE
- Wildcard
- Esport Academy Copenhagen
- UNiTY (fourth seed)
- SAW (unseeded, home team)
Format, schedule and prize money
FOX Legacy Cup #1 kicks off on Thursday, October 1 with the group stage. That part doesn’t concern UNiTY – thanks to the higher seed, their run begins straight in the play-off, which is played in Double Elimination from Friday evening. The fight for a prize pool of 12,000 euros, half of which goes to the champion, wraps up on Sunday on stage.
What it means for you as a viewer
For UNiTY it’s the first real test of the rebuilt roster in a LAN environment, and the seeding means fewer maps before the decisive matches – one loss in the upper bracket still isn’t the end, but a second one sends them home. If you follow the Czech scene, we also covered a Czech LAN weekend in our report from Tipsport Open Cup #2 and the move of a Czech streamer to HEROIC.
