What Remastered is and who gets it for free

Remastered isn’t a remake or a new game. It’s an updated version of the same game, developed by CD PROJEKT RED together with the studio Yigsoft and released as patch 5.0. It launched on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as a free upgrade for everyone who owns the game, whether on GOG, Steam, the Epic Games Store, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Nintendo Switch 2 got a native Remastered version. Everyone who owns The Witcher 3 on the original Switch gets it for free, except in Russia and Belarus, where the free Switch 2 upgrade isn’t offered. More details are in our news story on Remastered on Switch.

Remastered is now also sold on Battle.net and in the Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. On supported platforms, it replaced the Complete Edition and includes both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, as standard. You can no longer buy the base game without expansions, and the standalone expansions have been delisted. Which order to play the expansions in is covered in our DLC order guide.

What Remastered changes

The complete list of changes from the official patch notes is in our full changes list. These are the ones that matter most when you play:

Gameplay

  • New skill tree. Skills now sit in a tree, and each has three levels. You unlock new skills through previous ones, not by spending a set number of points. The tree has been rebalanced and some skills renamed. Skill points were reset during the switch, so older build guides from version 4.x no longer apply.
  • Reforge (transmog). At the master craftsmen Yoana and Hattori, you can change the look of your gear without changing its stats. Looks unlock by having the gear or diagrams in your inventory. Dyes from Blood and Wine carry over.
  • Combat and camera. New animations for Geralt and Roach, new finishers, an exploration camera with a wider field of view and a dynamic combat camera. Regular monsters (not bosses) behave differently.
  • Quality of life. Meditation as a time-lapse, merged loot in a single window (switched on in Settings under Gameplay), a loot feed on the left, looting from horseback, a quick way to disengage from combat, shorter tutorials and an expanded photo mode.

Accessibility and mods

  • Bard’s Ballad. A new Accessibility section with a preset that switches on when you start a new game on Just the Story difficulty, or manually at any time. It offers options such as ignoring weight, unbreakable gear and boosted vitality regeneration.
  • Mods through mod.io. The main menu now has a Mods menu that works on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. The how-to is in our Witcher 3 mods guide.
  • New localization. Ukrainian text localization was added.

Graphics

  • Native DirectX 12 with multithreaded rendering, a new shading model, textures and models based on The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, ray-traced local shadows and new GTAO.
  • On PC, path tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 and Intel XeSS 2.0 with frame generation, plus DualSense haptics.
  • On PS5 Pro, PSSR and 60 fps with ray tracing on, and up to 90 fps with VRR in performance mode.
  • On Switch 2, motion controls, gyro aiming, mouse controls and touchscreen support on the map, in menus and in Gwent.

Remastered also raised the bar on PC: the game runs on DirectX 12 only and needs an SSD. The full table is in our system requirements guide.

Prices as of 19 October 2026

StorePlatformPrice
Steam (Czech store)PC€49.99
PlayStation Store (Czech store)PS5CZK 1,069
Microsoft Store (Czech store)Xbox (Xbox Play Anywhere)CZK 999

Prices are as of 19 October 2026, and all three stores sell the Remastered version with both expansions. On Steam the price is without a discount, and it’s the only package on sale. PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can play a four-hour trial on PS5. We couldn’t confirm the Switch 2 and Battle.net prices from official sources as of the verification date, so we don’t list them.

PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch

Remastered is for the current generation only: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. On PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch, the game stays on its current version. It keeps working and still has technical support, but the Songs of the Past expansion and further updates won’t come out there. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are a free download on PS4 and Xbox One.

Saves, achievements and cross progression

Saves from the old version work in Remastered. Because of the new tree, though, your skills are reset, so you’ll spend your points again. Achievements you already earned in the base game, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine stay.

If you link the game to a CD PROJEKT RED account, it uploads your latest saves to the cloud, and you can continue from them on another platform. At launch there were also bonuses for linking your account and My Rewards.

How to roll back to an older version on PC

If your PC doesn’t meet the new requirements, you can go back to an older version, as official support explains:

  1. Steam: open the game’s Properties, go to Betas and choose CLASSIC (1.32), or version 4.04, which was added with Remastered.
  2. GOG Galaxy: choose the Classic beta channel.
  3. Epic Games Store: rolling back isn’t possible.

Version 4.04 is the last version of the Next-Gen Update (patch 4.0) line, which launched for free on 14 December 2022 and brought ray tracing and faster loading on consoles.

Post-launch patches: 5.00c and 5.01

Hotfix 5.00c from 1 October 2026 fixed saving when the path to the Documents folder contains special characters, fixed launching the Classic version (1.32) and reverted a HairWorks change. Patch 5.01 from 8 October 2026, among other things, fixed automatic oil application, turned Dynamic Resolution Scaling off by default, adjusted bloom, ray tracing and path tracing, fixed My Rewards and Twitch/Bilibili Drops in the chest in Vizima and added safeguards against corrupted saves.
