The first time you face the Queen in Valheim, you don’t summon her at an altar. Instead of offering items, you piece together a Sealbreaker from nine fragments and use it to open the Infested Citadel, where she’s already waiting. This guide walks through finding the right mine, collecting the fragments, crafting the Sealbreaker, what to bring to the fight and what the Majestic Carapace unlocks. It covers Valheim 1.0 as of patch 1.0.20 (15 October 2026).
Before you go: fog and Mistlands gear
The Queen rules the Mistlands, the sixth biome in the order. You head into the fog only after beating Yagluth, because his Torn Spirit builds the Wisp Fountain. Its Wisps power the Wisplight, a light that follows you and clears the fog. Without it you can hardly see a thing. How to get there is covered in our Yagluth guide.

Version 1.0 tweaked the Mistlands too. The Wisp Light, Wisp Torch and Mistwalker clear fog over a larger radius, and every Mistlands weapon now clears fog as well. Gear from the biome also has higher durability. Explore the biome and gather materials first, and our Mistlands guide will help with that.
Where to find the Queen
The Queen’s location is revealed by a Vegvisir in the Infested Mines, the dungeon type that arrived with the Mistlands in December 2022. Not every mine has one, so if you come up empty, try the next.
You’ll be visiting the Infested Mines several times anyway, because the seal fragments are there too. The Vegvisir points you to the Infested Citadel, the Queen’s lair.
The Sealbreaker: nine fragments and the Galdr Table
The citadel entrance is sealed, and the key is the Sealbreaker. Here’s the process:
- Collect 9 Sealbreaker Fragments. They’re in the Infested Mines, usually behind breakable glass or on pedestals.
- Unlock the Galdr Table. It becomes available once you’ve made Refined Eitr in the Eitr Refinery.
- Craft the Sealbreaker. Assemble it from the fragments at the Galdr Table.
- Open the Infested Citadel. Use the Sealbreaker on the entrance. The Queen is already inside, there’s nothing else to summon.
Rematches
For the second and later fights you don’t need the seal. The Queen is summoned with three Seeker Soldier trophies. Since patch 1.0.20, the chance of a trophy drop increases with the monster’s star level, so it pays to hunt the tougher ones.
How the fight plays out
The Queen is fast and attacks up close. She also calls in Seekers and Seeker Brood during the fight, so the arena fills up quickly.

The citadel has several levels. A Feather Cape slows your fall, so dropping between floors is much safer. There’s fog inside as well, so keep your Wisplight with you the whole time.
In a group, splitting roles works well: one player in heavy armour holds the Queen’s attention while the rest deal damage, magic included. Valheim supports up to ten players, and you can bring friends on other platforms together through crossplay.
Recommended gear and food
| Item | Why bring it |
|---|---|
| Wisplight | clears fog, including inside the citadel |
| Feather Cape | softens falls when dropping between floors |
| Carapace armour | the tank set for the Queen |
| Eitr foods | no Eitr, no spells, essential for a mage |
The Mistlands brought magic into the game: you draw Eitr from food and spend it on magic staffs and the Elemental Magic and Blood Magic skills. Eitr foods arrived in the same update, for example Yggdrasil Porridge, Seeker Aspic, Stuffed Mushroom or Misthare Supreme. You can have three foods active at once, so the tank goes for health and the mage for Eitr.
Reward: Majestic Carapace and Forsaken Power
The Queen drops her trophy and the Majestic Carapace (called “Queen Drop” in older versions). Hang the trophy on the Sacrificial Stones at the spawn point to unlock her Forsaken Power, triggered with a key for 300 seconds. Boss powers were reworked in Call to Arms on 9 September 2025, so older descriptions no longer apply. Today hers gives:
- +100% Eitr regeneration,
- sneaking costs no stamina at all (−100%),
- 50% poison resistance.
For progression, though, the Majestic Carapace matters more. It unlocks the Artisan Press, an upgrade for the Artisan Table, and through it the Drakkar. That’s the only ship that can handle the boiling seas around the Ashlands. Building ships and travelling by sea is covered in our portals and ships guide.
The Ashlands lie far to the south, cut off from the other biomes, and the next boss is waiting there: Fader.
