Yagluth is Valheim’s fifth Forsaken boss and the guardian of the Plains. You summon him with five Fuling Totems at an altar ringed by huge stones, he tests you with a fist slam, a meteor shower and a long fire breath, and when he falls he leaves behind the Torn Spirit you need to get into the Mistlands. This guide covers Valheim 1.0 as of patch 1.0.20 (15 October 2026), and the Forsaken Power is described as it works after the Call to Arms update.
Where Yagluth fits in the progression
The biome order is fixed: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands and finally the Deep North. Yagluth belongs to the Plains, so he comes after the Moder fight. You can technically skip bosses, but without materials from the earlier biomes it gets very hard. The whole route, and what to bring back from each biome, is laid out in our biome order guide.
The Plains are home to Fuling villages, Deathsquitos and grazing Lox, and at night the Vile come out. Fuling villages are where you get Black Metal Scrap, the metal tier for this biome. Barley and Flax also grow on the Plains. You find them in Fuling gardens and then farm them yourself, and Flax becomes Linen Thread on the Spinning Wheel.
Finding Yagluth’s altar
As with the other Forsaken, a runestone (Vegvisir) reveals the location. Read it and the altar is marked on your map. The spot itself is easy to recognise: the altar sits among huge stones that form a ring and look like a giant hand.
Clear the area before you place the totems. Fulings and Deathsquitos won’t wait politely for the boss to finish, and a fight on two fronts is the last thing you want.
How to summon Yagluth
You need five Fuling Totems. They come from Fuling villages, so raiding them is part of the job. Offer the totems at the altar and the boss appears.
| What | How many | Where you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Altar location | 1 runestone | Plains, the Vegvisir marks the altar on your map |
| Fuling Totem | 5 | Fuling villages in the Plains |
| Altar | 1 | ring of huge stones in the Plains |
His attacks and how to read them
Yagluth is slow and telegraphs his attacks. That’s his biggest weakness: you don’t win this fight on speed, you win it by watching what he’s winding up and moving in time.
- Fist slam hits the whole area around the impact point, not just a single spot.
- Meteor shower rains meteors across the area, so keep moving.
- Fire breath is a long beam. Don’t stand in front of him.
It’s easier with friends: one player keeps the boss busy while the others deal damage. Valheim supports up to ten players, and if your group is spread across platforms, our crossplay guide gets everyone into one world.
Gear and food
On the Plains you want black metal gear, the metal you collect right here. Weapons, tools and armour can go through portals, but the metal and ore themselves have to travel the long way. The full material ladder is in our gear progression overview.
You can have three foods active at once. Before the fight, favour the ones that raise health. Lox Meat Pie gives 75 health and Serpent Stew 80. For the trip itself, Moder’s Forsaken Power is worth having: a constant tailwind when sailing, +300 carry weight and +10% movement speed.
Reward: trophy and Forsaken Power
Yagluth drops his trophy and the Torn Spirit. Hang the trophy on the Sacrificial Stones at the spawn point to unlock his Forsaken Power. You trigger it with a key and it lasts 300 seconds.
Iron Gate rebalanced the boss powers in the Call to Arms update on 9 September 2025, so older guides describe Yagluth’s power differently and are no longer accurate. Today it gives:
- 50% lightning resistance,
- +25 to the Farming skill,
- +10% damage.
The Yagluth achievement only counts from version 1.0 onwards. If you beat him during Early Access, that old kill doesn’t count.
What Yagluth unlocks
The Torn Spirit is your key to the next biome. It’s needed for the Wisp Fountain, which collects Wisps. Those go into the Wisplight, a light that follows you and pushes back the thick fog. Without it you can barely see in the Mistlands. Version 1.0 also increased the range at which the Wisplight clears fog.

What waits in the fog is covered in our Mistlands guide. The next boss is The Queen, and this time the way in is a seal, not an altar.
