2XKO is Riot’s free-to-play 2v2 fighting game featuring champions from League of Legends and Arcane. On 20 August 2026, Riot announced the end of active development: once 2026 is over there will be no new content and no planned patches, but the servers will stay on and the game remains playable. If you bought the KO Points currency with real money or the Starter Edition before 20 August 2026, you’ll get your money back. All refund requests must be made by 7 December 2026. This guide covers what 2XKO is, where to play it and what changes now that development is ending. Status as of 20 October 2026.
What is 2XKO?
2XKO is a tag-team fighting game: each match pits two pairs of champions against each other, swapping in and out during the fight. You can play it in two ways:

- solo, controlling both champions yourself,
- as a duo with a friend, each of you controlling one champion.
The game is free and online matches use rollback netcode. The champions come from League of Legends and the Arcane series. The official 2XKO website lists Lux, Thresh, Senna, Akali, Caitlyn, Warwick, Teemo, Blitzcrank, Vi, Jinx, Braum, Illaoi, Yasuo, Ahri, Ekko and Darius among others. According to Riot’s schedule, Samira joins with patch 1.3.3 on 27 October 2026.
Where to play 2XKO
2XKO runs on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Season 1 started on 20 January 2026, and the console version launched with it.
Consoles: Riot account and linking
On console you need a Riot account plus a PSN or Xbox account. Be careful on PlayStation: linking PSN to a Riot account is permanent, and one PSN account can only be linked to one Riot account. Before you link, make sure you’re using the Riot account you want to keep for good. The steps are in Riot’s linking guide.
PC requirements
According to the system requirements page, 2XKO on PC needs:

End of active development: what Riot announced
On 20 August 2026, Riot announced that 2XKO active development is ending. That means no new champions or other new content after the end of 2026, and no further planned patches. The servers stay on beyond 2026 on all platforms, and offline play is unaffected.
Here’s the schedule for the rest of the year:
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| 20 August 2026 | real-money KO Points purchases disabled, refunds begin |
| 8 September 2026, patch 1.3.1 | Lux added, all champions free, Ranked, Battle Pass and seasons removed, KO Points removed |
| 27 October 2026, patch 1.3.3 | Samira joins |
| November 2026 | final event of the 2XKO Competitive Series 2026 |
| December 2026, patch 1.3.5 | last planned patch, bug fixes only (Riot listed it as optional on 15 October 2026) |
What changed with patch 1.3.1
Patch 1.3.1 on 8 September 2026 set the game up to run without further development:
- All champions are free for every player.
- Ranked, the Battle Pass and seasons are gone. Ranked rewards from past seasons stay on your account.
- The remaining modes are Casual, Tutorial, The Climb and Offline. Skill-based matchmaking stays.
- KO Points are gone. The game keeps two currencies: Champion Tokens and Credits. Credits can’t be bought, only earned by playing, and the 12,000 Credits cap has been removed.
2XKO refunds: how and by when
Riot is refunding all KO Points and Starter Edition purchases made before 20 August 2026. You keep everything those purchases unlocked, even after the refund. Riot will send you an email with the details and the amount.
How you get the money back depends on the platform:
- PC: automatically to the original payment method, such as the card you paid with. Japan and South Korea are the exception, with refunds handled under local rules.
- Console: through the standard PlayStation or Xbox process.
Riot plans to have the refunds issued by 1 November 2026. If you haven’t received anything by then, contact Riot support, but no later than 7 December 2026. After that date Riot no longer accepts 2XKO refund requests. Details are in the 2XKO evergreen transition FAQ and the refund policy.
Refunds in League of Legends itself follow their own rules, with a 14-day window and refund tokens. They’re summed up in our LoL refund guide.
2XKO Ultimate Bundle
Since 8 September 2026, Riot has been selling the 2XKO Ultimate Bundle, which includes nearly all skins, chromas, taunts and finishers. As of 20 October 2026 it costs €39.99, $39.99 or £33.99. The bundle isn’t part of the mass refund, because it only went on sale after 20 August 2026.
Why Riot ended development
Riot pointed to the game’s performance: player retention, new players coming in and engagement. Shacknews quotes Riot as seeing “no meaningful, sustained change in 2XKO’s trajectory”.
Is it worth starting 2XKO now?
Decide based on the facts. The game is free, every champion is unlocked and, according to Riot, the servers stay on beyond 2026. You can play Casual, The Climb, the Tutorial and offline, and matchmaking still pairs players by skill. On the other hand, there’s no Ranked or Battle Pass any more, and no new content is coming after December 2026.
