Yes, Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege) is free to play. The base version is called Free Access and costs nothing on Steam, in the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS4 and in the Microsoft Store. What you get for free is limited to unranked modes and a starting selection of operators, though. Ranked and the Siege Cup only open up with the paid Elite Edition or Ultimate Edition. Below you will find what each edition includes, what it costs as of 20 October 2026, how PS Plus and Game Pass fit in and what carries over between platforms.
What Free Access gives you
Free Access is a proper way into the game. Steam lists it as free to play, the PlayStation Store shows it as free for PS5 and PS4 (Free Access release on 10 June 2025) and the Microsoft Store has two Free Access listings at no cost.

According to the PlayStation Store description, Free Access includes:
- Quick Match – fast casual matches, a good place for your first hours.
- Unranked – matches that do not affect your rank.
- A starting selection of operators – an operator is a playable character with their own loadout. The official list tags them as Starter Operators and we cover them in our guide to beginner operators.
The store lists “Ranked playlists, Siege Cup, additional operators, and cosmetics” as paid content. Matches are 5v5, with one team attacking (Attackers) and the other defending (Defenders).
Elite and Ultimate: contents and prices
The paid editions mainly differ in how many operators you get straight away. Prices are as of 20 October 2026 and always tied to a specific store, so they may differ elsewhere.
| Free Access | Elite Edition | Ultimate Edition | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick Match and Unranked | yes | yes | yes |
| Ranked and Siege Cup | no | yes | yes |
| Extra operators | starting selection | 16 operators from Year 1–2 | 54 operators from Year 1–10 |
| Bonus | – | – | Disruptor Pack |
| Steam (Czech store) | free | €19.99 | €39.99 |
On Steam the Ultimate Edition is listed as “Y11 – Ultimate Edition”. Console prices depend on the store in your country. For reference, the price in the Czech PlayStation Store is 499 CZK for Elite and 949 CZK for Ultimate (same for PS4 and PS5), and the Czech Microsoft Store sells Elite for 499 CZK and Ultimate (54 operators, Disruptor Pack) for 999 CZK. Current prices are also listed on Steam and in the PlayStation Store.
Owning a paid edition is not enough for ranked on its own. Ubisoft also requires Clearance level (your account level) 50 or higher, at least 10 Attackers and 10 Defenders unlocked and 2-Step verification turned on. The full checklist per platform is in our ranked requirements guide.
PS Plus Extra and PC Game Pass
The Elite Edition may already be part of a subscription you pay for:
- PS Plus Extra – the PlayStation Store marks the Elite Edition as “Included” for Extra subscribers.
- PC Game Pass – according to Ubisoft Help (updated 12 October 2026), it includes the Elite Edition: the base game, all 16 operators from Year 1 and 2, Ranked, Siege Cup, Quick Match and Unranked.
On PlayStation there is one more thing to keep in mind. The PS Store states that online play requires PS Plus, which is sold separately. For ranked on consoles, Ubisoft requires an active online console subscription in general.
Where you can play Siege
Ubisoft lists these platforms: PC (Steam and Ubisoft Connect), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. On PC the game runs on Windows only, there is no Mac or Linux support. If you own the PS4 version, you get the PS5 digital version for free.
Steam lists the Steam Deck as unsupported because of the anti-cheat. What your PC needs is covered in our system requirements guide.
Crossplay and cross-progression
Crossplay is always on for PC and cannot be turned off. On consoles it is off by default. You switch it on under Options → General → Crossplay Matchmaking = On, and on Xbox it also has to be allowed in the console settings. A console player with crossplay enabled is placed into PC matchmaking in Ranked, and their PC rank is separate from their console rank. There is no text chat on consoles.
Cross-progression works automatically across all platforms. You need the same Ubisoft account linked to your console account and you need to launch the game on both platforms at least once. Content earned or bought in the game is shared:
| What carries over | Examples |
|---|---|
| Packs | Alpha Packs, Bravo Packs, Event Packs |
| Operators | unlocked operators and their cosmetics |
| Cosmetics | gear and weapon skins |
| Battle Pass | progress, rewards and tokens |
| Currency and boosters | R6 Credits, Renown, boosters |
R6 Credits, Renown and age rating
Siege has two in-game currencies: R6 Credits and Renown. R6 Credits are bought with real money in the platform stores. Thanks to cross-progression, both currencies follow you between platforms.
On Steam the game is rated PEGI 18 and USK 16.
