Roblox isn’t a single game but a platform where players create games themselves and play them for free on PC, mobile, consoles and in VR. It’s run by Roblox Corporation, and its most played games have hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. We don’t give it a score: it has no critic score on Metacritic and it isn’t on Steam. But we’ll tell you what Roblox offers, what it costs and what to watch out for.

What Roblox is
On Roblox you don’t play one game; you pick from games made by other players and studios. Since 2026 Roblox calls them games in its player-facing texts, previously experiences. You’ll find simulators, roleplay, shooters, survival and RPGs. According to the Top Playing Now chart on October 19, 2026, Steal An Egg, Murder Mystery 2, Brookhaven RP and 99 Nights in the Forest were on top. Brookhaven RP has more than 88 billion visits, Adopt Me! more than 45 billion. More in our most played Roblox games article.
Every game has an official content rating: Minimal, Mild, Moderate or Restricted. Restricted games are only for players verified as adults. Based on these ratings, Roblox splits accounts into Roblox Kids for ages 5 to 8, Roblox Select for 9 to 15 and Roblox for 16+.
Roblox Studio and making games
You can build a game yourself too. Roblox Studio is free for Windows and Mac, and Roblox offers courses for it, including Lua Learning. Successful creators can exchange earned Robux for real money through the DevEx program, but they must be at least 13 and have at least 30,000 earned Robux. How to start is in our Roblox Studio getting started guide.
Why we don’t score Roblox
Our score is based on player ratings on Steam and critic scores on Metacritic. Roblox isn’t on Steam, and on Metacritic its critic score is tbd on every platform: there’s a single critic review and the score only shows from four. Metacritic users give it 4.9 out of 10 from 812 ratings. We don’t want to build a score on that, and since every game on Roblox is made by someone else, one number wouldn’t tell you much anyway. So this is an overview only.
Price, Robux and Roblox Plus
Downloading and playing is free. The paid currency is Robux, and its price varies by country; in Czechia, for example, 270 Robux cost 90 CZK on roblox.com. Buying on the website, on a computer or with gift cards gets you up to 25% more Robux than in the mobile app. Since April 30, 2026, the Premium subscription has been replaced by Roblox Plus at $4.99 a month, with discounts on items and free private servers. Prices are covered in our Robux prices article.
Watch out for random items. Roblox itself says in the App Store that games may include optional purchases, including random virtual items, and Google Play lists in-game purchases with random items. Free Robux generators don’t exist; according to Roblox, every such offer is a scam aimed at stealing your account.
Platforms, languages and age
Roblox runs on Windows 10 and 11, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone and iPad, Android, Amazon Fire tablets, Xbox, PS4, PS5 and Meta Quest, with cross-play. Roblox doesn’t support Linux, and its support pages don’t list Nintendo Switch. The interface comes in 17 languages, and creators can translate their own games. More in our articles on platforms and languages and translation.
Roblox is rated 13+ in the App Store and T for Teen on PlayStation. Through a linked account, a parent can set the content rating for games, chat, a monthly spending limit and a daily time limit. Without an age check, a child’s chat is off. The step-by-step setup is in our Roblox parental controls guide.
Who Roblox is for (and who it isn’t)
It suits you if you want to try lots of short games with friends for free on any device, or build a game of your own. If a child plays, a parent should have the controls set up.
Skip it if you expect one big, polished game or don’t want to deal with Robux purchases.
Summary: Is Roblox worth it?
As a free platform, yes, but we don’t give it a score. Critics don’t rate Roblox on Metacritic, and every game on it has a different creator.
Roblox offers a huge number of free games, cross-play on almost every device and tools to build a game yourself. On the other side are Robux purchases including random items and the age checks needed for chat. If a child plays, set up parental controls before they start spending.
