Marvel Rivals launched on 5 December 2024, and the list of platforms has grown since then. The game is free everywhere it runs, so buying it isn’t the question. The question is whether it runs on what you have at home and whether you can play with a friend on a different box. Let’s go through the platforms, crossplay, progress transfer and performance on consoles.
Where Marvel Rivals runs
NetEase Games is both the developer and the publisher, and the game is free on every platform:
- PC (Windows): on Steam and the Epic Games Store, free. Steam lists Windows only; neither macOS nor Linux is on the list.
- PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S: since launch in December 2024.
- PlayStation 4: added later, on 12 September 2025 alongside Season 4.
On consoles you don’t need PlayStation Plus or a Microsoft subscription, because free-to-play games have online multiplayer on both platforms without a paid subscription. What does cost money in the game is covered in our article on Marvel Rivals pricing.
The PC requirements are modest; the toughest item is disk space:
| Item | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer) | Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer) |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-6600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Intel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 1060 / RX 580 / Intel Arc A380 | RTX 2060 (Super) / RX 5700 XT / Intel Arc A750 |
| DirectX | version 12 | version 12 |
| Storage | 70 GB | 70 GB |
Both configurations assume 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12 and an SSD install. A graphics card from 2016 is enough to launch the game, not to keep the frame rate smooth in a six-versus-six firefight.
Where you can’t play it
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is in the works, but there’s no date yet; NetEase last confirmed it at GDC in March 2026. There’s no mobile version and no Xbox One version either: the game skipped Microsoft’s older generation, even though NetEase did go back to the older console on the PlayStation side.
There is a workaround for a weaker PC: since January 2025 the game has been on NVIDIA GeForce NOW, including the free membership. The game runs on a server, so your connection matters, not your graphics card. How that works is explained in our article on cloud gaming.
Crossplay: who plays with whom
Crossplay has been in the game from the start and works across everything in the regular modes: Quick Match, Conquest, games against AI and custom matches all put PC players and console players in the same pool. NetEase adds in its official FAQ that competitive does not match PC players with console players. In ranked, this is how it works:
- PC: only with other PC players, regardless of whether you have the game on Steam or on Epic.
- Consoles: PlayStation and Xbox play ranked together; PC isn’t part of this group.
You can only turn crossplay off in unranked modes and only on console, where the toggle is in the game settings. Don’t look for it on PC; lobbies there are always mixed. For most players it isn’t worth bothering with: it makes matchmaking take longer, and in competitive the game separates the platforms on its own.
Cross-progression: what carries over between platforms
NetEase fully launched account linking with Season 5 in November 2025. In the game settings you’ll find account binding: pick a platform other than the one you’re signed in on and confirm the verification. Steam, Epic, PlayStation and Xbox then all fall under one main character.
What you get: your progress, collection, skins and paid content are the same everywhere. Whether you boot up your PC or your console, you play with the same unlocked heroes.
What doesn’t carry over is your competitive record. Battle data, rank and leaderboards are tracked separately per device, so Diamond on PlayStation doesn’t mean Diamond on PC, and you’ll play your placement matches again. Season rewards, on the other hand, are based on your highest rank across devices, so you won’t miss out on them. A few more limitations:
- Platform-bound costumes don’t transfer elsewhere.
- One PlayStation account per character: a platform rule you can’t get around.
- After unlinking a platform you wait 180 days before you can link it again, so think it over before you click.
Controller or mouse and keyboard
The game supports controllers, and everyone holding a gamepad gets aim assist, even on PC. That’s exactly why platforms aren’t mixed in competitive: comparing mouse against controller makes no sense to either camp.
The other way around is closed. The game doesn’t natively support mouse and keyboard on console, and NetEase treats adapters that convert the input into a controller signal as cheating. Using them risks temporary and permanent account penalties and removal from the leaderboards.
Performance and settings on consoles
For PlayStation 4, NetEase published specific numbers: the base model targets 1080p at 30 frames per second, the PS4 Pro 1440p at 60 frames, and the install takes the same 70 GB as on PC. According to the developers, optimizing for the older console took months of work, and it shows mainly in the resolution.
There’s no official performance table for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The advice is the same on every console: fine-tune your aim sensitivity and controller dead zone before you jump into competitive, because that makes a bigger difference than the console generation. And if you’re still choosing a console, we have a roundup of the best PS5 games.

You can link your accounts, and then your progress, skins and purchases are shared. Rank and battle data are tracked separately for each device, though, so your rank doesn’t move with you.
