PlayStation has announced two new wireless headsets for PS5: the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. Both move to custom planar magnetic drivers and support PlayStation Link, while Pulse Edge sits above the standard model with active noise cancellation, a detachable boom mic and a carrying case in the box.
Release windows are split between 2026 and 2027
The two headsets are not arriving together. PlayStation Pulse will start rolling out in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, and Pulse Edge follows starting in early 2027. Sony has not announced prices, exact release dates or preorder dates for either model, and says it will share more launch details soon.
What both new Pulse headsets offer
The refreshed lineup builds on Pulse Elite from 2024. The original Pulse headset from 2020 used dynamic drivers; both new models switch to larger, custom planar magnetic drivers. According to PlayStation, that means fuller and deeper bass while keeping clear sound separation and spatial accuracy, so directional cues like footsteps and reloads stay easier to place.
Shared features across both headsets:
- PlayStation Link for lossless, ultra-low-latency audio, with switching between supported devices including PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac
- A simultaneous connection to a supported Bluetooth device
- A PS Link dongle with a USB-C connector in the box for PC and Mac
- Integrated microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection that filters background sound out of voice chat
- A redesigned shape aimed at longer-lasting comfort and durability
- A folding design with rotating earcups, so the headsets lie flat for transport
- White and Midnight Black color options

Pulse Edge adds active noise cancellation
Pulse Edge is the premium option. Its planar magnetic drivers use double the magnet volume – and double the number of magnets – compared to the standard PlayStation Pulse, which PlayStation says results in richer, deeper bass without losing precision or clarity.
The more practical difference is active noise cancellation, which cuts the ambient noise you hear while playing. That is a separate feature from the microphone noise rejection both models have, since that one only targets background noise in your chat audio.
Pulse Edge also swaps the integrated mic for a detachable boom microphone. Take it off and you can still use a hidden mic for chat. On top of that it adds a 3.5mm jack for a wired connection, dedicated controls for audio modes and chat on PS5, premium materials and a carrying case.
What is still missing
If you are picking between the two, the announced differences come down to noise cancellation, microphone options, driver design, the wired jack and the carrying case.
