Konami has confirmed that you won’t have to wait for launch day to get your hands on its return to 2D Castlevania. A free demo of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse goes live on October 1, exactly two weeks before the full game releases on October 15. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Steam, and it covers the early portion of Rose Belmont’s adventure.
The big detail: your progress isn’t wasted
The most important part of Konami’s announcement isn’t the demo itself, it’s the save transfer. Progress from the demo carries directly into the full release, as long as you play both on the same platform and the same account. Konami does add two caveats: some features and content may be restricted in the demo, and the full game has to be updated to its latest version before the save data can be moved over.
That makes the demo feel much closer to a head start than a standalone trial. If you already plan to buy Belmont’s Curse, you can start learning the combat and traversal now and keep everything you’ve done. Just don’t treat it as unrestricted early access – the content limits are still there.
File sizes and performance targets
Konami also published the technical targets for each demo build:
- PS5 – at least 6 GB, targeting 60 FPS
- Xbox Series X/S – 5 GB, targeting 60 FPS
- Steam – 4 GB, targeting 60 FPS
- Nintendo Switch – 3 GB, running at 30 FPS
For comparison, the full game is listed at 8 GB to 10 GB depending on platform. In other words, the demo looks like a genuinely meaningful chunk of the opening rather than a tiny sliver. The official demo page is up on Konami’s site, and the game itself already has store listings on PlayStation Store and Steam.
What Belmont’s Curse actually is
Belmont’s Curse marks Konami’s return to the exploration-focused 2D action the series is known for, this time starring Rose Belmont, daughter of legendary vampire hunter Trevor Belmont. The story is set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse. Rose carries Dracula’s curse in her right arm, while Trevor returns to Paris after answering a call for help.
On top of the classic structure, the game adds faster whip traversal, multiple weapon categories, Relics, and an Arcana system that lets Rose seal defeated bosses into tarot cards and draw new spells and abilities from them. Konami is developing it alongside Evil Empire, the team behind The Rogue Prince of Persia, with Dead Cells studio Motion Twin acting in an advisory role. Early previews have been broadly positive.
The roster leans hard on series history too: Dracula, Death, Medusa, Carmilla and Isaac all return, joined by new enemies including Joan of Arc and The Fallen. The release lands during Castlevania’s 40th anniversary year – and an October demo drop is fitting timing for a series built on vampires, Gothic castles and supernatural horror.
